I have unwisely left my Coldfire trilogy on the wrong side of the national border, and so I can't browse the books for reference. I'll remedy this unfortunate state of affairs on my Easter vacation, but meanwhile I would be most grateful if someone could help me a bit. It's about the hell.

It almost seems as though it amuses them that Damien can argue so ruthlessly and coldly. They know Tarrant thinks he won't survive, and maybe they think that they'll get Damien too now that he's changing more and more.

Although now I am trying to recall how exactly was the nature of the Unnamed defined. How trustworthy (well, at least stable and foreseeable) it would and must be as a contracting party.

Good point! *stirring up plotbunnies*

Karril claims the Unnamed is too powerful to battle and too unstable to reason with. Damien calls it a creature that changes its definition every second, and thinks that Tarrant must have been desperate to even think of striking a deal with them. He's also aware that any answer he'll get depends on what form the Unnamed is in right now (and it's apparently composed of all kinds of negative/angry emotions).
And I'll stop before I bunny myself. :-)

I think I agree with Damien, Tarrant's deal starts to sound insane. Tarrant being Tarrant, though, he probably used the chaotic nature of the Unnamed for his own advantage.
