Lois was exhausted. Mentally and physically, the past few days - months really - had been hell on the whole family. One might think that considering the amount of times she'd almost lost Sam, she might have a little more faith in him coming back to her by now. But it was terrifying every single time. Sitting next to a hospital bed, clutching his hand, praying to whoever the hell would listen that he'd come back to her.

And somehow, someway, he had. Whatever shit Dean had pulled had worked and Sam had come back to them again, possibly better than he had been before. He seemed... hell, he seemed normal. Healthy, even. And as worried as she was that it'd slip away from her again, Lois was determined to enjoy it. For as long as it lasted.

It had only been two days since he'd woken up, but they'd been the most restful, the most peaceful they'd had in months. Elle was even starting to sleep through the night. Mostly. But when she awoke to the emptiness of the bed next to her, Lois couldn't help but want to see Sam bond with his daughter ( ... )

Ah. Well.

That was unexpected. A moment of curiosity about Sam’s child and now Lois was awake, fully expecting Sam in control. Regretfully, Ezekiel delved into Sam’s surface memories. He shifted his hold on the baby, cradling her against his shoulder.

“Yes. I can take care of her. You should rest.”

Already sleepy again, Elle patted at his hair and the faint corona of light she saw coming off her Daddy’s head. “Shiny Daddy,” she murmured.

The twitch of a smile was all Ezekiel as he kept stroking her back. Children really were remarkable, and this child, the product of two such extraordinary humans - she had such potential. Now with any luck, they would both return to sleep and could simply discount the evening as a half-remembered dream.

It was the voice that confirmed it. Too... smooth, too proper. It shocked any fatigue from her body and she glanced from him - it - to Elle, straightening a little and attempting to keep calm.

"I can take her," she said tightly, taking a hesitant step towards them and reaching out for the child. "C'mere, sweety, let's let Daddy rest, okay?"

Ezekiel winced internally. He’d been so curious about the child, about everything that she saw in him and it could wind up costing Sam his life, the life he’d fought and sacrificed for. The child rested her head on his shoulder, yawning hugely. “Daddy shiny Mama."

He handed her over, still carrying himself stiffly, at attention. Ever the good soldier, even now as an injured angel in a broken vessel.

“You don’t have to be afraid. I am here to help. I came in answer to Dean’s prayer.”
