Unexpected Guest

Naturally when things started to go right, life threw the Winchesters a curve ball.

Sam had been home almost a month and things were starting to settle down. He and Lois were sharing a bed, his nightmares and flashes were getting less frequent, they were even talking about tracking Castiel down to finally perform a long awaited wedding.

But then the nosebleeds had started. Pain that doubled Sam over until Dean was forced to take him to the hospital and watch helplessly as he slid into a coma. Sam was a man just barely thirty and his body simply couldn't take it anymore. A lifetime of hunting, possession, the Cage, the trials and a year in Hell. Too many miles on a body not equipped to deal with that much damage.

With no response from Castiel, Dean had done the only thing a desperate Winchester could do. He sought help from another angel, one who claimed to be on their side and who wanted to help. But with Sam so weak, Dean had been reluctant to tell his brother.

Or his fiancee.

Ezekiel didn't pry into Sam's memories - it would be an invasion of his privacy and a betrayal of his trust. But while Sam slept, he sometimes wandered. Read a book, watched the sky or jut the play of shadows across the ceiling while Sam and his mate slept on.

Tonight the sound of a baby crying stirred him to move, padding quietly into the nursery to check on the small human there, tangled in her blankets and crying. Sam needed his rest. Surely he could calm the child without waking anyone else.

"There there, little one." Gently he reached into the crib and tugged the blanket free, smoothing a hand down her back as her cries quickly tapered off into sleep. "It's all right."
