You're Just an Empty Cage

I was originally going to also post a fanfic that came based on the information I found here, but that's not to be...at least not to be today!

Below is an explanation of Branch and Main Houses, how this structure could play out in Naruto-verse and effect major Hyuuga characters.

Just an empty cage, if you kill the bird )

hyuugacest, character:hanabi, meta, fandom:naruto, character:hinata, hyuuga-centric, character:neji, character:ko

Thanks for writing all of this! It's really interesting to read. I wonder, like you, if all of the other "clans" in Konoha are structured in this traditional way like the Hyuuga clan. Probably the Uchiha clan was, since they were one of the top/largest/most powerful clans in Konoha. The other clans (Inazuka, Nara, Akimichi, etc) we have very little information about, but I've always thought that they were far less rigidly structured because they didn't really have a bloodline limit to protect, just clan specialties.

I always wonder what happened to the Senjuu clan (as far as we know for sure, Tsunade is the only confirmed currently living character). Although Konoha was formed by the Senjuu, and a bunch of smaller clans, it seems like there should be more Senjuus running around.

... I think it is quite fun to play around with what those other clans could be like. Shino and Chouji for sure are both also heirs (their dads are stated as heads). Ino miiiight be too. But you are right. It doesn't seem as pressured and Shikamaru's homelife seems displayed to be mostly like a nuclear family unit (though, I don't think his dad is stated as a head, so that might be why).

The Senjuu... it is weird that you don't see that name ever. Yet, Tobi/Madara says he thinks the Senjuu blood is in Naruto, so maybe the house-line/name died out but the bloodline is still there with female descendants? Or it got wiped out in a war? Or... They are all very busy and have little contact with Naruto? There really should be more of them, you are right.

Firstly before I forget with all this interesting material, your lj-cut only covers your notes and your whole essay shows up on my f-list ( ... )

It is good to consider the possibility especially when writing such a thorough essay, but somehow the idea doesn't seem to fit Naruto all that well. They have found new and more interesting reasons for discrimination than sex ( ... )

From a storytelling POV, a demon in you is a VERY interesting (if not particularly common) reason for discrimination, true.

And it would be frustrating trying to balance and handle everything. lol.

I hope canon goes NaruSaku (and not just because I love NejiHina either...). I think they mesh well and basically I want Naruto to get who he wants after all this. I'm a little worried about what Sakura has to say to him though... well, not that the end looks anywhere near in site no matter what is said.

Personally, I do think that Naruto will become Hokage, though I agree that it would be better storytelling to have him outgrow his need. But the target audience is at an age where I'm not sure it could end other than Naruto achieving said dream. Not that that means he'll make the law I guessed at. As you said, maybe changing Neji's heart was all the mattered :)

I agree that Kishimoto does seem to intend his world to be more or less gender-equal (though, I'm not sure if Kurenai was still unmarried post-time-skip.Huh. This might make a difference to some of my stories. I should look it up! lol.) Promigenture, and the dozoku system however are not gender-equal, so I hedged and put in both possiblities. Hinata could be the one to become head. Or, if Hyuuga did follow more strict adherence to those family systems, and did not usually have women inherit, being called heir could be only until she was married to an adopted-son-in-law, who then would become heir at that time.

More interesting character development do come about though if Hinata can become head though, I agree.

You know, I still think a very interesting story would be how a female head or a female kage has to work harder to be recognized by peers (other clan heads/Kages).
