Hey shippers! The banners and party post will be put up this evening, but we wanted to open up a post for feedback.
How do you think we did? We want to hear everything--what needs improvement, what went well, what changes you wish we'd implemented, everything.
Sample questions for consideration:
  • Was the point system fairly balanced?

Overall, I think you guys did a great job, especially for a first time. A few things really stuck out to me as needing improvement or tuning ( ... )

In addition, I suggest having more than four rounds, and maybe more time in between each round, to give the teams more time to work out what to do, develop a great entry, and have more chances to get points, so that it would be possible to come from behind and win even if you didn't do well in the first round or two.

I vehemently disagree. It was impossible for most people to sustain energy throughout the number of rounds and time span that this Olympics had. The last thing that should be done is to make it bigger and longer.

ftr, we did have an HSO tumblr!

I'm pretty sure we linked everything over there? We may have missed one or two posts, but.

This was a lot of fun! I'd totally participate again even if nothing was improved upon ( ... )

Definitely seconding the loss of members problem.

I don't know exactly what could be done for that either, but it certainly was annoying.

I agree. 12 members is a LOT for a team, especially with everyone being in different time zones and. It's kind of unavoidable that some people get caught up with other things and don't have time to spend in HSO.
However, it did make me particularly sad to see people commenting on our works and saying "this is my OTP! I wish I could have been in your team! :(" and having 2 or 3 people who never participated in a discussion or in a round at all taking up room on a team that they don't participate in.
I don't know if there's even a real solution for this, except having a quick and easy way to duck out of HSO if you find you don't have enough time to participate.

Yeah, there's really no way to replace people one the competition has started, and if we were taking people disappearing into account the five-person requirement might be a problem? Honestly we were probably under the 5-person threshold after the first round.

So... yeah, I don't know what could be done. Smaller teams would mean that losing someone is even harder on the team as a whole, and larger ones aren't likely to retain more members, I don't think. It's definitely a difficult problem. :(

Honestly, the overall everything was AWESOME. This was one of the most fun and rewarding events I've ever participated in, and it was really well organized. All the interaction I had with any of the mods was very positive - requests I made and questions I had were responded to and dealt with incredibly promptly, and you guys were really on top of things ( ... )

I feel like the point system was fair and it made sense. The number of points seemed to be pretty well balanced out among the rounds, especially once it was extended to the top ten. I also liked the points for voting - helped give an edge to active teams, which I think is fair ( ... )
