A change of scenery

Overnight, snow arrived. Yesterday evening I was out at the local astronomical society's Xmas quiz meeting, and I decided I'd come straight home afterwards because snow had already started falling. Other folks stopped by the local pub for a quick drink, and found that the roads were quite a bit slipperier by the time they headed home. Thankfully they all seemed to get home safely. Today there's enough snow to make the place look all wintery and really quite pretty, without so far managing to bring the country to a grinding halt. The traffic doesn't seem to be having all that much trouble, and the local roads here are fairly clear.

I did elect to go on Shankses Pony to the near-by High Street to get a few things done, rather than driving, and the walk was a pleasant one. I even took a few photos of the paths through the woods along the way.

The patch of woodland concerned has various parts with various names, including Crofton Heath, Gumping Common, Roundabout Wood, Sparrow Common and Sparrow Wood. These days folks often use the last of those to refer to the whole area.
