The waiting was part of the thrill of course. It wasn't really a hunt when the sacrificial lamb would come walking straight into the trap, but there was a tingle up his spine regardless. Children broke so easily. People broke easily. Too easily for Carrow's taste. If only they could be made of stronger stock. Of course the older they get, the more they have to lose, and then they become more desperate ( ... )

"Oh, darling, I don't know, forgetting a man's flowers on the first date? Next time I'm going to demand a diamond ring, with this rate," Sirius didn't let his body betray the mild shock of being tied up and blindfolded. Not being able to see wasn't his idea of a good time unless it involved sex and he was not going there with this Carrow. No thank you.

"Maybe we'll have to spend the evening fogging up windows," he added. "As added payment. They always say that make up snogs are the best snogs, you know."

Yeah, he'd blame the whiskey for that one later.

Sirius shifted a little, rolling his shoulders and feeling out the ropes that held him. Tight, not painful - yet, anyways, but he knew that would change soon enough - and the blindfold...he'd spent months and years in solid darkness.

He was used to this.

"I suppose this'll have to do," he tacked on, as an almost bored afterthought.

James, being himself, had taken to patrolling the Hogwarts grounds late at night. It gave him something to do at night, instead of just sitting around feeling useless. At the moment, however, he was just finishing up one of these late-night patrols and planning to head back in. It doesn't do to patrol when you're sleepy and not on your best guard. --For one thing, it makes you an easy target.

And easy target he was. James Potter was part of the plan even if Black hadn't realized it. Oh he had no doubt that one on one he could eventually break Black, but who was to say he would have that kind of time. No, you see Amycus needed Potter around to make this truly hurt. Not only would he help to break Black, but he would help to make his son crack as well. It was beautiful really ( ... )

James looked up when Carrow entered the room, raising an eyebrow at the blood. "Red's not your best colour, you know. Though I suppose it does save the world from looking at your face, so that's always nice," he said in greeting, giving a smirk that hopefully hid most of his alarm.

In the two hours Carrow had been gone, James had been preparing himself for something like this to happen, so he was ready for the cruciatus curse. True, it was painful -- very painful, actually, but he'd been through worse before and could get through it again. So all Amycus got for his pains was James digging his fingernails into his palms and biting his lip 'til it bled.

"You would think you'd have gotten more original in the past 30 years."

"Oh, let's get you in so you can look at your friend's face instead. You know, this was all about him trying to spare you and your grandchildren. Funny that. He makes a deal with me, and you still end up in here. At his age you'd think he would know not to trust someone like me."

There was a bounce in his step as he lifted his wand and said, "Mobilicorpus!" James, the chains, and the bar he was attached too were lifted easily and maneuvered out of the room. It was a short walk, or float in Potter's case, to the other room where James was dropped painfully hard to the ground.

Amycus lashed out a kick to his face and smiled. "Is that more to your liking then?"
