Hermione Hat Questions

I knitted Blythe a Jayne hat. You'd think she'd be happy. Now she says, "You know, what I really need is a Hermione hat." I have a feeling this is some sort of a-- got a big head, flaunt it!- kind of Blythe thing. So I went searching, but I don't want to pay $5 for a pattern that won't have her size. (It doesn't right ( Read more... )

Thanks. That's on my wishlist; maybe I'll go take a closer look at it.

Thank you. :)

There are a bunch of screencaps from POA at Mugglenet.com (near the end of the second quarter).

The top is finished by decreasing down to a few stitches, then running the yarn through those stitches to close.

heh, i guess i'm lucky, my flora was happy with her ravenclaw hat and none of the others seem to want any hp knits! (it's funny - i have four dolls, and one is in each house! i don't know how that worked out, but it did.)

The pattern repeats three times around the hat. Each zigzag-and-bobble section is bordered by a 'twisted' cable on each side, so around the hat, there are two twisted cables, a zigzag, two twisted cables, a zigzag, two twisted cables, and a zigzag. Making any sense?

The top of the hat is formed by the zigzag getting narrower and narrower as well as the twisted cables getting thinner, then when few enough stitches remain, the stitches are gathered at the top.

That totally makes sense.

So it's 3 sections and it looks like they sort of swirl together at the top, so I'm thinking maybe double decreases right before the end cable in each section?

The twist cables start out at six stitches, then at the top they decrease to four and then two. The zigzag section gets narrower and narrower, with the purl field around the zigzags narrowing and then the zigzag itself getting slimmer. Everything gets smaller and closer together until there are few enough stitches to gather.
