Needless to say, I have a t'ing for Hugo Weasley so I clicked with great excitement! I adore your tale! I always feel bad about the low opinion so many fans hold of Ron Weasley but I do realize that the fault lay with JKR in not showing Ron's character developing. He was awesome in SS with his strategy and bravery in the human chess game. Likewise, Ron is brave and loyal when he faces spiders with Harry despite his own terror. But after that, Rowling seemed to forget about Ron....
This is how I imagine him though, as a great father, patient and understanding! And major kudos for a Hugo is a blend of his parents and spot on for his age. Also for a Hugo Weasley who appreciates the awesomeness of Grandma and Grandpa Weasley! I'll be bookmarking this to return to....

I loved those two lines. The story was sensitively handled, especially the insight about Ron and the boy who would have loved that new broom. This is a lovely story.

You have Hugo's "child who thinks he's an adult" narrative down pat here - I love the supercilious references to gifts he's "been known" to enjoy in the past. And it was lovely to see the fatherly side to Ron at the end - I'm sure he's as impulsive as he ever was, but he can also recognise his mistakes, and this is a lovely example.
