Prompt/Prompt Author: Albus Severus is sorted into Slytherin, where being the Son-of-the-Boy-Who-Lived is even more problematic than it is elsewhere. The portrait of Snape that hangs in the Slytherin common room helps him through it, and Albus Severus gets to know the man whose name he bears. Through the friendship, both come to ( Read more... )

It definitely works for me!

Portrait!Snape is wonderfully voiced. I love that he retains his sharp Snapian self but has changed (or perhaps allowed himself to reveal aspects of his character he had to hide in life.) And he's still a teacher.

The idea that, for Albus, facing his fears includes allowing himself to be sorted into Slytherin is a wonderful conceit. One imagines that it would be very hard for him, even if his parents tried to shielf him from anti-Slytherin sentiment. He's such a believable child--plucky (in the best sense of the word) and fearful at turns.

I like the way the initial meeting between Malfoy and Potter harks back to their fathers' meeting while implying that Malfoy fils and Albus Potter could become friends the same way Ron Weasley and Harry Potter did.

Albus slowly lowered his hand. “No, you don’t,” he said, more calmly than he felt. “You know who my father is.” As he turned away to unpack his own trunk, he felt both proud and irrationally angry. Perfect. Looks like he inherited his father's bravery and a ( ... )

Oh, yay!! So happy you liked what I did with your most excellent prompt. I'm thrilled that you enjoy the reasons why Al ended up in Slytherin, and how Snape relates to him afterward. This was definitely so much fun to write! Thanks!!

You've created an excellent Snape voice; I can just hear him. I like the idea of Albus Severus being sorted into Slytherin. And of course it makes sense that the common room would be comfortable; I enjoyed that particular bit of myth-busting.

Thanks so much! I never thought for a second that after the rebuilding of the castle, the dorms would be anything like what they were before. I do love writing Snape - glad you enjoyed him here!

I love this story absolutely. I adore how time and possibly death has given Severus some perspective on the Potters but he still hasn't lost his edge. I just have so many feelings for this story that I can't quite put it into words. When I clicked on the title by chance (I'm not actually following the fest, I just peeked at the round-up and the title caught my attention), I never expected that I'd be quite so moved. The fact that Al's experience mirror's Harry almost so perfectly but that at the end he holds back and says nothing, letting the hat in effect place him in Slytherin is just brilliant. There are so many little beautiful gem in the story. Thank you for sharing it.
