Athletics Professor or Games Professor, or Master?

Hey there all!  I have a quick question, if Hogwarts started a new class after the war like a PE or a gym class where the students were taught Muggle sports like football and tennis, etc., what would the professor be called?  Muggle Athletics Professor or Muggle Games Professor, and should it be Professor or Master?  I remember in Agatha Christie's ( Read more... )

Dumbledore, Slughorn and Flitwick are also referred to as [subject] master (small m).

Hogwarts being rather old fashioned I suspect they'd say Games master/mistress, but the more common. modernish Muggle term would be "PE teacher".

Perfect, thank you. I didn't remember the others being called master.

What do you think the class itself would be called? Muggle Athletics or Muggle Sports or something else? Physical Education, since purebloods wouldn't recognize PE?

I'm probably SUPER late with the reply, but to me it sounds like Muggle Athletics would be the best, since it sounds the most old fashioned and "proper".

Both Potions and Charms profs are referred to as 'masters' (Flitwick, Snape, Slughorn). Hooch, I believe, is only referred to as the 'flying instructor'. I'd vouch for 'Athletics instructor', and thereafter refer to them as Prof Whoever, or Madame (as this was the honorific given to Hooch).

It's Harry who's in the position. What would be the male equivalent of Madame? Would it be Master or just Mr or something else? I didn't remember the Charms professor also being called master.

My inclination would be to call him Prof Potter, as an honorific. Men usually get more deferential titles than women (sadly), so I think that would be consistent. Depending on your worldbuilding, I imagine that purebloods would swallow a class like that a little easier if it were simply "Athletics" or "Sport".

Muggle PE or Games (Harry would be more familar with PE, but would be okay with Games, I think) as the course name, and then probably be (Games) Instructor, as that was Madam Hooch's designation for Flying - I'd assume the course would be much less academically inclined, so Professor would be inappropriate.

As for title to use, until he arrved at Hogwarts Harry would have been used to Mr or Mrs/Miss/Ms [name], and sir or miss otherwise, so Mr Potter/sir would be acceptable.
