Jumping Spider

I was having a dream about baby spiders and Kate Bush remixes this morning. As you do. The baby spiders part came from a time about 5 years ago when we had a nest of baby spiders at home, and Mum 'dealt with it' by running a feather duster through it. In the dream, someone tried to get rid of them, but there were still a load left, and they grew ( Read more... )

your weird spider story reminds me of a similar spider experience i had a couple days ago. the other morning when i went to take a shower, a spider came from hiding behind the shower curtain and began crawling up the wall. it didn't even really freak me out that much, at first, which is saying a lot since i REALLY hate spiders. but i assumed it was trying to get the fuck away from me, so i didn't care. it moved amazingly fast, though. i've never seen a spider move so fast. it was like a big brown blur. anyway, it ended up climbing DOWN not UP which wasn't cool with me. i went about thinking of how to kill it without actually having to do anything when it did some freaking Matrix-like moved and jumped UP the wall. and it did NOT use its web, either. it just... jumped! jumped up! and super fast! this thing was like, part something else. well, that made me shriek, and sort of jump around in the shower. eventually it slid down in the tub and the flow of the water washed it into the drain, which also made me scream. until ( ... )

It's often surprising how fast spiders can move. I remember seeing a nature documentary about how a fly's perceptions are much faster than our, so time runs slower for them. Which makes sense. I imagine spiders are the same. They're obviously not as agile as flies, but they can certainly cheese it when they have to. Insects are a lot more robust than we are. When you consider that dropping a spider out of a second-floor windows is kind of the same as a person falling from a skyscraper, it's pretty impressive! Spiders are awesome, essentially.
