Oh, we are sooooo going on a Mac/Dick marathon tonight to feed the inspiration into this most glorious of enterprises!
This is a side of Dick I have always wanted to see in the show and it's a part of him I can honestly see simmering beneath the surface even now. The absolute joy I am getting out of this series is borderline euphoric. My Dick icon says it best. ;D
I can see this part of him underneath the harsh banter, too. His reaction to Veronica in this week's Pill screamed 'go away, I can't deal with you, you're bringing up crap I haven't dealt with yet' rather than sneaky liar, which is how Veronica interpreted it. Poor guy, he seriously needs some therapy, which is something I am happy to provide in the form of a slightly dented Mac.
OMG! I thought i loved that first fic you sent out for this series but im loving this one even more!
Please keep up with it, i love that you don't seem to be making them cringe every time they mention Cassidy (as some fics have) or try to make them act like it was a bed of roses either.
I just love the balance of emotions you are creating in this series.
I haven't read any Mac/Dick, so I'm not sure what else is out there, but I wouldn't be surprised if ficcers took shortcuts and glossed over the relationship with Cassidy in such a way to make it more palatable to the audiences. To me, that character was too complex, and the effects of his actions are too widespread, to be dealt with in that fashion.
Yay for good moods! I think I'm writing this style of fic, instead of my usual ironic misery, because I need a little bit of cheering up, too.
I think the sexual nature of these two comes from A. they're teenagers and looking at linoleum can make them want to have sex, B. that so many of Mac's issues with Cassidy dealt with that, and her new relationship with Dick is a way to slay those demons.
Since it's late (or early, depending on your point of view), please bear with me while I attempt to enumerate the reasons I love this fic.
Pancakes... the quadratic formula in song form (where were you when I needed that! Ha!)... trailing papers from a mostly open bag like college-ruled snowfall... the classic shave and a hair-cut... Shiner Bock (ha! I have a Shiner Beers ball cap and I'm from the north *g*)... XBox challenges... and But you’re here, and now I’m not alone anymore.
Fantabulous, doll! I can't wait for the next bit.
(P.S. I've got the Snickerdoodle shampoo bookmarked for the next time I've got extra cash to throw away on yummy smelling bath notions... so thanks!)
I'm thrilled you enjoyed it! The next bit might be a while in coming since I'm busy with work, but I know exactly what's going to happen to our two favorite protagonists!

I still adore the way in which these two fall into something so sexual even with a seriously messed up past behind them.
By the way, Mac singing the quadratic song might have been the sweetest thing in fic ever!
