[ota] Have a holly jolly....well, maybe

Dec 06, 2012 14:47

The problem with a problem....is that it didn't disappear just because one ignored it or pretended it didn't exist. And Leona was the best at pretending, most of the time.

But not today.

She'd skipped out of work because Thursday was close enough to a weekend that no one would care, and besides- what was she really doing that was going to save ( Read more... )

...but, see, a bar-top isn't a pillow. And that means she's going be nudged at by a man who has dragged many a drunken friend out of bars.

Come on. This isn't lady-like.

"Go 'way," Leona slurred as she lifted her head up slowly and fumbled for an empty glass. Why wasn't it full of delicious beer? Why?

"I don't want to talk right now. I just..." She stood up on wobbly legs as she picked up the pint glass and waved it around. "I want some more bloody beer."

There's an absent click of his tongue as he pulls out his phone. Can she still read, or has that part of her brain turned off yet?

No talking. Just getting you home. There will be more beer in the morning.

Now come on. Up. Don't make him throw you over his shoulder.

"I'm serious, go away!" She said, plopping down uselessly in the bar stool and huffing out air with some annoyance. With foggy eyes she looked at the screen he shoved in her face before scowling a little.

"I want more beer now."

Things had been better lately, in this direction. Of course, it was never exactly good, and Elisha knew it was still a problem - would probably always be one, because he couldn't really manage to push Leona hard enough to turn her around a corner.

Things had been worse in other directions, though, he thought as he slid silently onto the stool next to her and waved the bartender away.

"Leona."

"What?" She asked, turning a drunken glare toward Elisha for a moment before she huffed a little and cling to her empty pint glass.

"I took a sick day, you can't get pissy with me, mate. Nip off back to your castle now, let us plebeians tend to ourselves."

"I didn't say anything," Elisha pointed out, calmly enough as he watched her. This had probably been coming. He'd probably helped it along by not talking about the situation with Hadyn, but...

It didn't seem there was much common ground.

"I think you're done drinking for tonight, though." Because the bartender had called him. "I think we should talk instead."

"Talk about what?" She asked, frowning as she stared at this empty pint. She wasn't ready to be done, but there wasn't a point to arguing.

Elisha would just pick her up bodily if she pushed it.

She's polished enough spoons she imagines she'll be seeing them in her sleep. Still, that doesn't mean she can't come sit down at one of the bars in Town and have a drink or two and get a feel for the place.

But the woman down the bar looks like she's maybe had just a bit too much and it's got Diane frowning as she carries her drink with her down till she's sitting beside Leona. "Think it's time to go home, maybe?"

"Why go home, unless it is with someone? Would be a total bore otherwise." She said, lifting her head up to look at Diane curiously for a moment.

"What's your name?"

Should she point out she prefers going home with people vaguely sober? At least if she isn't drunk herself? Well, that can wait.

"Diane, Di, if you want. I'll answer to either." She smiles at Leona, all charm. "You?"

"Leona." She said simply, with a vague sort of shrug.

"I'm not nearly drunk enough to need to go home yet," even if she was really. It was all a matter of opinion in the end.

Have a friendly nudge, Leona. "Bartops are damn comfortable till you wake up in a pile of drool and a huge pink mark over half your face." Monty waves two fingers at the barman. Guinness for now.

"Hey, Darlin'. How's it going?"

"I don't drool," Leona protested as she picked up her head and propped it up with a hand. "But that doesn't matter much."

"I'm fine. Peachy. Best I've ever been. You?"

"Sorry. That anything like horses sweat, men perspire and women glow? 'Cause I gotta tell ya everyone drools eventually."

"Fair to middlin'." He accepts the beer and turns around to lean against the bar. "Never understood why folk say 'peachy.' Damn things bruise all the time." He slants her a look. "How come that doesn't sound like you're feeling peachy?"

"I forgot my rosey smiles in the castle, sorry." She said, twirling her empty pint glass slowly with a sigh.

"Are you going to lecture me about my drinking?" Because she really wasn't sure she was up to that today.
