"Laureline," she said gravely. "I hope the day finds you well." Clearly it did not, but Briony doubted Laureline would be sharing the whys of that. She hadn't ever been that kind.

"Hadyn will hardly speak to me," she said after a moment. "It isn't as if I lied to him, I simply didn't see the point of robbing him." Which, clearly, she assumed her brother knew precisely what she was speaking of.

Luckily, he does actually know precisely what she's speaking of, but then, she's rarely had to specifically lay things out for him. "Only now I imagine he does feel robbed," he replied. "I can't, quite, imagine what it would be like. To grow up believing one thing...only to find out that that belief was completely false."
