Säde has tea in hand as she watches the flames spread. This year, as every year, she's glad to see it burn; after all that's happened, a conscious shift in the world is what's needed.
"Not starting until the bonfire's over, I hope," she answers wryly, turning to her friend. "After all, it'd be a pity to miss the festivities you've worked so hard for."
"I guess I can manage to eke out a few more hours, since you put it like that," Mel says with a laugh that, while tired, isn't forced. Seeing the bonfire lit always relaxes her somewhat, even when there's more work to be done in the morning.
This is the first time Leigh's seen a bonfire, and the strange, officious way in which it begins, and the way it burns thereafter, sends a small chill down her spine. But the atmosphere sweeps her up too easily. And the s'mores are so easy to assemble, she's suddenly got a pile of pre-made s'mores on the table for anyone to melt.
(But first she's going to eat her first few attempts. Yum.)
Can she share one of her attempts with a friend who isn't particularly adept at making them? It's the way things so often are with Eileen, after all--fencing and physics come naturally, but the ability to keep a marshmallow from catching fire eludes her entirely.
Milo's been wandering around since the sun started setting, watching the preparations and generally trying not to get in the way while he chats animatedly to the Diamonds setting things up.
It's possible Eileen's been skipping sessions. Given the events of the last month or so, she hopes she'll be forgiven for spending more time hiding away than diligently examining her emotions.
At least, that's why there's a touch of hopefulness in her tone. "Dr Tolbert."
It's hard to avoid news of something as unusual in the Deck as a trial, much less an execution, and Milo's been keeping track. So while he's understanding, he's very sure there'll be a few steps back in her progress. "Eileen. How've you been keepin'?"
"About..." She cuts herself off, lip coming between her teeth for a moment. 'About as well as can be expected' isn't an incredibly descriptive explanation of her state, however accurate it might be. And she was meant to be considering her own emotions, allowing them.
Perhaps to the surprise of some, the old man chooses David to sit beside. An odd pair, the King of Spades and the Heart, but they have history, and there's no reason not to mix it up a little.
"We never did tell the kinder, did we? What the dybbuks told you, I mean."
It's murmured over a smore, easily ignored if the King wants to leave that issue for later.
"I think it's their right to. They act it already--I can't help but wonder if it would affect anything in the long run."
He grabs another marshmallow to roast, leaning back slightly, looking all too comfy in his oversized hideous sweater and an old, worn-in pair of slacks.
Johnny's there, tuning his fiddle as the bonfire is prepared, he'll pause for the actual ceremony itself, but then once things get going, folks will hear him playinga songor three
Oh, a fiddler! Jinx loved it when people played music! For a while she watched, but all she kept thinking was, 'wouldn't it be more fun to dance?'
And, since dancing wasn't talking, why not? This was the night when everyone let their hair down! So, with a few twirls and a skip, Jinx started to dance along~

"...not particularly well. Yourself?"

It was just one more year, but the bonfire meant more than that. This was something they all did together, and it was a day he'd always be happy on.
Even if they fought, there was always a sense of unity on bonfire day.

"No, we didn't. Do you still think they should know?"

Well, that, and he doesn't think he knows how to do anything else, but still...
...so he'll dance a step or two, too, as he plays along.
