Get Your Kickstarters Here

Mar 24, 2006 14:11

Here’s our first writing assignment. We call these “Kickstarters.” It’s a half-dozen dialogue prompts to kickstart a story. Start with it, end with it, or plant it in the middle, but use the quote.

Finished length should be 500-1,000 words. Stretch yourself and pick characters you don’t usually write, or take on creating an original character. There is no time limit on completion. If you post your finished work elsewhere, please note that it originated at The Clinic.

When you’re done, if you’d like to post your work for discussion or writing help, please post a link to your journal as a comment below. Head the story as follows:

My prompt was:

Don't write a summary. We'll have a topic on summary writing coming up after this exercise. Those who'd like to work on summary writing will be invited to work up summaries for their Kickstarter exercises at that time.

Good luck! And here's your Kickstarters:

1. “Man, you seriously need a personal shopper,” Foreman said as he picked one of Chase’s appalling ties off the back of the bedroom chair.

2. “You talk in your sleep,” he said, and was surprised when she smiled.

3. “Test this,” House said, dumping a knotted pillowcase onto the counter in the lab. “But it’s moving,” Cameron called out as he walked away.

4. “Gimme,” House said and plucked the meal check from Wilson’s hand. “Did the earth just start rotating backward?” Wilson asked.

5. “There are worse things than this,” he said softly, and she shook her head.

6. “Did you see my little boy?” the woman asked as she clutched Cuddy’s sleeve. “He has on a red coat, and he’s four years old.”
