To find Tom in the schoolroom is one thing. To find Door in the schoolroom with him is another thing. To find both of them there, without the children....

'What has happened?' No formalities, no pleasantries. Just a quiet question, and a steely glint in his eyes.

Tom hands over the scroll, but doesn't quite meet Merriman's eyes. This is almost the worst part - disappointing Merlin.

Between Tom's inability to meet his eyes, and Door's complete ability to do so, something of the sternness leaves his gaze. But his expression is still grave and set as he takes the scroll and reads what Tom has written.

When he looks up, after finishing it, his expression has not changed...but most if not all of the colour has drained out of his face.

Softly:

'I see.'
