To find Tom in the schoolroom is one thing. To find Door in the schoolroom with him is another thing. To find both of them there, without the children....

'What has happened?' No formalities, no pleasantries. Just a quiet question, and a steely glint in his eyes.

Tom hands over the scroll, but doesn't quite meet Merriman's eyes. This is almost the worst part - disappointing Merlin.

"I can't speak of it. But I didn't promise not to write."

Between Tom's inability to meet his eyes, and Door's complete ability to do so, something of the sternness leaves his gaze. But his expression is still grave and set as he takes the scroll and reads what Tom has written.

When he looks up, after finishing it, his expression has not changed...but most if not all of the colour has drained out of his face.

Softly:

'I see.'

"I couldn't- There was nothing I could do. She bested me."

He practically spits out the last words.

Merriman's gaze goes cloudy, opaque.

'Now Blodeuwedd is an owl in the language of this present time,' he murmurs, distantly, as if reciting, 'and for this reason is the owl hateful unto all birds. And even now the owl is called Blodeuwedd.'

His vision clears, and he looks back at them. 'She has a glass pendant on her person in which she has some of Raven's blood. And it seems she has found a use for it after all.'

"I've done what I could to secure any paintings she'd not seen. She has no access to the Underside. And so far, she's not made any disturbance within the House."

He glances at Door, so very glad she's standing with him. "I've made her carry Ingress's thank you notes to the bar. She seemed more than happy to carry on with the subterfuge, but we've informed the residents of the House that they are no longer to use owl post."

He nods, brow furrowing in thought. 'I have received messages from owls in the bar before. Where else do messenger owls have access? The rooms of other patrons? The Security office?'

"If they're sent to those places, yes. I usually send my owls to Bar herself. Or to 'Dora and Bernard's flat."

His eyes open wide. "Oh God, Door, I haven't told them."

He runs a hand through his hair. He's been doing that a lot lately.

'They should be notified as soon as possible. I know that there is no love lost between her and Mr Wrangle, and if she has access to his private quarters she might well attempt something along the lines of what has happened here.'

Tom nods, his face an even ashier shade of pale. He squeezes Door's hand.

"I don't know what to do, Professor."

'I think that whatever can be done, has been done,' Merriman says, and if there was any hint of anger in his expression or voice before it is not there now. 'You were given a Hobson's choice, Mr Riddle. And you took it, because it was the only real choice available to you.'

Dark eyes regard Tom with deep concern. 'The most imperative matter right now is to prevent her from learning what has happened. You have marked yourself by telling me this -- by telling anyone this.'
