Drabbles: Batch #4

4a.
Prompt: Kris/Katy tourfic, Kris is really nervous for the first show, Katy calls him to perk him up
Author(s): joannacullen
Rating: G
Notes: I know the prompt called for PG-13, but this is what came out. *shrug* Sorry.

Kris is pacing back and forth backstage twenty minutes before show time. It's the first show of the Idols Live! Tour and to say that Kris is nervous would be an epic understatement.

His phone vibrates on the table. He rushes over to pick it up.

"How do you always know?" he asks with a smile, plopping down into a couch.

"I have wife telepathy," Katy deadpans. "…and we have been together for the better part of seven years," she adds.

"Katy, what if I screw up? What if they think I'm a letdown after Adam?"

"Kris, you won American Idol," she reminds him. "You are super talented. People love you…I love you."

"I wish you were here. I'd just bury my face in your hair like I always do, smell your strawberry shampoo and everything would feel alright again," he laments.

The neediness in Kris's words is starting to scare Katy. She hopes she can calm him.

"I wish I could be there too, baby. But, I know you'll do well tonight. I'll be praying for you," she assures him. "God's given you this amazing opportunity, so don't waste it. Go show the world what a talented, gorgeous husband I have."

"Katy…" he starts, but the words catch in his throat.

"I know, baby. I know and I'll never forget it. Call me when the show is over, okay?"

"I will," he replies, pressing the end call button.

"You ready?" Adam asks with a reassuring smile, popping his head around the door frame.

"Yeah," Kris exhales. It's not a lie. He does feel less nervous after talking to Katy. She's such a loving, calming, sweet, honest presence in his life.

He'd be lost without her.

Prompt: Kris/Katy tourfic, Kris is really nervous for the first show, Katy calls him to perk him up

Notes: I was doing so well on keeping it to 300 or less! Oh well!

"Hey, baby."

Kris swallowed and leaned back against the wall, listening the crowd, and closed his eyes. "I think I'm going to be sick."

"What?" He could actually hear Katy's frown. "Kris, you were so excited earlier. What's wrong?"

He stayed quiet for a few moments, taking a few deep breaths and staring at the wall across from him before he finally admitted softly, "I'm scared, Katy. I've never been so nervous about playing a show in my life."

"Oh, Kris, I wish I could be there."

"Me too."

Matt ran by and Kris forced himself to smile back as Matt waved, adjusting his vest as he did. Kris looked down and dug his heel into the ground.

"Katy," he finally said. "What if they boo me?" It was one of Kris's biggest fears and, honestly, it'd been in the back of his mind for days. He was well aware what some people were saying about him winning and he could only pray that he'd prove them wrong but the idea that he'd prove them right instead was still there.

"They won't." Her voice was strong as she said it and he felt himself automatically relax. "They won't. You deserve this, Kris, so much. I'm not the only one that thinks so, either. And tonight, you're going to remind them why."

His breath came a bit easier at the assurance and determination in her voice. "Yeah?"

"Of course." This time, it was a smile that was in her voice. "Now do me a favor."

"Name it."

"Blow them away and prove those asses wrong."

Kris laughed. "Done." He straightened. "Thanks, babe."

"Anytime. I love you."

"I love you, too."

Kris was still grinning a few minutes later when Adam walked up to him and wrapped him up in a hug, pulling him close. It was automatic to respond by wrapping his arms around Adam's waist and press his face against Adam's shoulder. He smiled when he felt a kiss pressed to the top of his head.

"What was that for?" Kris asked softly as he pulled back. Adam grinned lightly and held up his phone, shaking it slightly.

"That was from Katy."

6.
Prompt: "We have to get votes SOMEHOW."
Author(s): blue_icy_rose
Rating: PG
Notes: As soon as I remembered that Katy had wanted Kris to do this, I had to pair it with this prompt!

Katy had, she decided, married one of the most stubborn men out there. She sighed. "Kris," she tried again.

"No," he said, shaking his head. "Absolutely not."

She crossed her arms and tilted her head slightly to the side. "And why not?"

Kris raised an eyebrow at her in an expression she'd come to easily recognize over the years. "Katy, I'm not going to pretend to be single or use my looks just so I get noticed."

"Well, we have to get votes somehow," she groaned. "And you said it yourself; they've hardly put you on the screen."

Grinning softly, Kris wrapped his arms around her waist. "We will."

Katy couldn't help but return the grin as she placed her hands over his. "Oh? And how are we going to do that when the producers are blind to your awesome?"

Kris laughed. "I'm just going to have to show them what they're missing, that's all. I'll work hard and pray that I sing better than I ever have before and have faith that it'll all work out." He leaned down, resting his forehead against hers. "I just won't give up. You taught me that, remember?"

Katy smiled, thinking of how Kris had been so close to giving up on his music in Arkansas, the frustration he so rarely showed clear when he'd moved his guitar into the back of the closet. She also remembered the joy that had been on his face the day that he'd believed her that things would work out in the end and had taken it out and played her a song.

"Yeah," she said softly. "I remember." She pressed up and into him. "You're going to do amazing. I know it."

Kris's eyes brightened with affection. "With you believing in me, how can I not?"

7.
Prompt: Kris/Katy late-night phone call during the tour
Author(s): joannacullen
Rating: R
Notes: This kinda turned into sexy!times. I think the prompt writer wanted it to. It's sweet, tame sexy!times though.

The jingle of her ringtone and the phone's vibration against the nightstand arouses Katy from a deep sleep.

"Kris," she yawns, covering her mouth with her hand and stretching a bit. She holds the phone tight to her ear as she peers at her alarm clock to see what time it is. "It's 2 a.m. here."

"I know. I'm sorry. I just couldn't sleep. I was just feeling ---" Kris hesitates to finish the sentence, feeling a little bit sheepish about saying it, even to his beloved wife.

"--- horny?" she finishes without missing a beat. She can almost hear him blush.

"Yes," he concedes. "It's been way too long, Katy."

"It has, and making love always does tire you out," she recalls.

"I miss the feeling of your bare skin against mine," he whispers, but in a deep, almost lustful register.

"I miss the way you breathe hard and fast against my neck, kissing in just the right places as you get closer and closer," she indulges him.

"I miss your soft pink lips, repeating my name over and over again. I miss your blond hair cascading across the pillow. I miss the way you look up at me, breathless, and how I can always tell what you're thinking," he pants.

"I miss you inside of me," she dares to say. "I miss that moment when there's no space between us and it's like we are one person because we fit together perfectly, and it feels so natural."

"I miss you clutching, digging your fingernails into my back as your whole body convulses underneath me," he exhales.

"I miss falling asleep in your arms afterward; fighting to stay lucid, to savor the moment, and exchanging breathless "I Love You's" with you until sleep overtakes us both," she replies.

Kris says nothing for a few seconds, but Katy thinks she can hear him breathing heavily.

"Kris?" she asks.

"I'm here," he murmurs. "I fell asleep."

She smiles, pulling the covers up around her. "I love you, Kristopher. Sleep well."

Prompt: Teenagers. Katy insists on hearing the song Kris wrote about her.
Author(s): yuppielawyer
Rating: PG
Notes: I don't know if I get the bonus points or not.

"Katy, give it back!," Kris insisted, trying to grab the scrap of paper from Katy's hands.

"Awww, Kris. I wanna read it," she pouted. "I think it's sweet you wrote me a song." She kept turning away from him as he continued his efforts.

"It's not finished. Pleeeease, Katy. Please don't read it," Kris begged.

Katy sighed, feeling a little bad for him now, but, when he used her momentary sympathy to try to quickly grab it again, her reflexes kicked in, and she darted for his bedroom door.

Kris chased after her down the hallway, and caught up to her in the living room, wrapping his arms around her waist from behind. Both of them broke out in fits of laughter. After they each managed to catch their breath, Katy turned around to face him, and spoke up again. "Kris, I really want to read it. I promise I won't laugh. But, if you really don't want me to . . ."

Kris could not resist her when she looked at him like that. "Okay, okay," he relented. "But, you have to promise not to tell anybody. "

"I promise," she said, and they walked to the couch and sat down. Kris couldn't even look at her as she read it. He was so embarrassed, but also, nervous.

"'She's My Girl,' by Kristopher Allen," she began.

"We walk down the street, she's holding my hand; she's so pretty, and she's my girl. We laugh and we fight, but we understand; she's so pretty, and she's my girl. I tell her I love her, she," and she stopped. Kris held his breath for what seemed like forever, but really wasn't.

"Kris," she said, her voice cracking. She looked over at him next to her, and he was still looking down, fiddling with a thread on his shorts. "Kris, do you really love me?"

He exhaled loudly, and looked up at her. "Yeah, is that stupid? I know we've only been going out for a couple months-"

She kissed him, and it was awesome. They just kept kissing and kissing, until finally, they both broke away to catch their breath. They sat there for a moment, foreheads touching, staring at each other. Kris didn't know if he was supposed to say something now, or if it was her turn. He was pretty sure it was her turn.

"I love you, too, Kris."

"Yeah?"

Katy nodded her head, and kissed him again.

Prompt: Teenagers. Katy insists on hearing the song Kris wrote about her.

Notes: Cheesy, cheesy, cheese that totally went over 300 words.

"Hazel eyes starin' back at me," Kris croons out quietly. He slaps a hand to the strings of the guitar. "No, seriously, Katy, I can't."

Both Katy's smile and body droop in disappointment. "But I wanna hear it," she whines.

"I can't. I'm sorry."

Katy is on her feet and bounding across the room, dodging their shoes and text books, to quietly shut the door. "Now, only I can hear it," she whispers with a sneaky grin.

"You can't shut the door!," Kris hisses back, eyes large and fearful. "If my mama comes back here--"

Katy grins. "Sing, sing, sing! She won't notice a thing until Dan gets home," she says as she tip toes back to her seat on the bed.

"I'm opening the door," Kris whispers and stands.

Earnest fingers latch onto his free hand. "Please," Katy begs. "I won't laugh. You know I won't laugh."

Kris heaves a sigh. How can his own shame even compete with those words and that look on her face? "Alright, alright," he finally relents with a shake of his shaggy head. "But I'm not using the guitar because they'll hear."

Katy perks up immediately. "Okay!" she excitedly whispers and bounces herself on the bed until she's sitting on her calves. Her expression becomes serious. "This is, like, the most exciting thing ever, Kristopher. You have no idea."

Great. She must be expecting, like, John Mayer or something -- as if he isn't nervous enough already.

Kris sits the guitar in its stand. He absently scratches at the hair behind his right ear. His pulse is racing. He bashfully ducks his eyes as he sits back down.

"It's not much."

"I don't care."

Katy possessively hugs his arm and nuzzles her face into his shoulder. Kris sighs and folds his hands in his lap; he's too nervous to hold her hand. He glances between her and the bedroom door three times before sucking in an anticipatory breath.

"Hazel eyes starin' back at me, askin' if I want to take her for a twirl. Sun-kissed hair floats on the air like petals, as she dances barefoot in the field. It's a wonder to see and it's all for me. She's my daffodil."

The bedroom door abruptly opens wide enough for Kim Allen's head to poke into the room.

"Kristopher Neil Allen!," she sternly huffs, ready to lay a punishment and lecture upon him. Her expression softens. "Oh, goodness, Katy! Did something happen? Why are you cryin', sweetheart?"

Prompt: tourfic, Kris misses Katy and drunkdials her
Author(s): blue_icy_rose
Rating: PG
Notes: Oh, FAIL at word count. I'm sorry! I just couldn't seem to stop. And for reference, this is the picture mentioned.

Kris beamed up at Adam and pulled out his phone, clumsily pressing a few buttons until he found the picture he wanted, turning his phone up so that Adam could see the screen.

"Katy's pretty," he declared.

Adam snickered as Kris stumbled and nearly dropped the phone. Quickly, he reached out to steady Kris's hand and then he looked down at the picture. He couldn't help but smile at the sight of Kris and Katy, a little younger and at some sort of party, arms wrapped around each other and Katy's hair in pig tails.

"She's gorgeous," he agreed, digging through Kris's jacket pocket until he found the key card to the room. He opened the door as quickly as he could; making sure that Kris made it to the bed before he let him go. "Can you get your shoes off?" Adam hoped so because he wasn't entirely sure he was able to. He figured he was lucky that they'd gotten to the room with no one seeing them.

"Yup." Kris lifted his foot and wiggled it to prove the point and then fell backwards, laughing. Adam couldn't help but fall down laughing just as hard on the other bed. Kris grinned at him and then turned and concentrated on his phone, hitting a couple of buttons. It was only a few moments later when he said, "Hi, Katy! I miss you!"

Adam lifted his head and snickered again as Kris waved his arms in the air as he talked as if Katy were right there to see him.

"…and then Matt bet me that I couldn't finish the round of drinks off but I won. And Adam helped and then we came back to the room and guess what?" Kris's voice lowered to a loud whisper. "Adam's drunk."

Adam frowned and pushed at the air between the beds as if it were Kris. "Shut up," he said, voice louder than he'd meant it to be. "You're drunk, you...short person."

"I'm not short," Kris protested. "Katy, tell Adam I'm not short. I'm just right." He looked over at Adam and pointed at him. "Ha! Katy said I'm not short."

"She did not."

"Did too. Katy, you did, too, right?" Kris frowned. "Not drunk, I'm just tipsy, I swear. I can totally touch my nose. See?" He lifted his finger to touch his nose and then made a sound of frustration when he poked his cheek instead. "Oops. I should record this. Then you could see."

Adam rolled over as Kris listened to whatever Katy had to say next and then Kris nodded. "Okay. I am in bed. Okay. I love you. You know that, right? I love you….lots and lots." Kris grinned. "Baby, my love for you knows no boundaries!"

At this, Adam fell off the bed, he was laughing so hard.

"No, really," Kris insisted. "It crosses mountains and weathers hurricanes! Katy, really, it does. Why are you laughing?"

Adam was still giggling as Kris continued to use the lyrics of No Boundaries to demonstrate his love for Katy.

Prompt: The Hot Pockets eating Hot Pockets
Author(s): yuppielawyer
Rating: PG-13
Notes: I never imagined writing this one until I was struck by inspiration. Sorry, no bonus points for me, but, Allison didn't really fit into this story. Hope you still enjoy

"Wow," Katy panted into Kris's chest, almost completely out of breath. "That was, um, wow."

Kris laughed that sexy deep laugh he laughs. "There's no place like home," he said. He was almost out of breath himself, but had enough energy to play absentmindedly with Katy's hair.

It was their first night together back in their old apartment since Kris had left to rehearse for the tour. On the way home from the airport, they had talked about ordering in some takeout, but, when they got home, food was the last thing on their minds. They shut the door, set down their bags, looked at each other for about three seconds, then attacked each other, ripping one another's clothes off as they kissed furiously, and clumsily made their way to their bedroom. Their bedroom. Finally. Three hours later, Kris was coherent enough to remember he was hungry.

"Need food," he grunted.

"Um, that might be a problem," Katy replied, biting her lower lip.

"Why is food a problem?"

"Well, since I was going to be with you for two weeks, I cleaned out the kitchen. I didn't want to come home to an ant invasion."

"Well, I have used up every last bit of energy in this little body of mine, and I need to be replenished," Kris joked with her, kissing the top of her head.

Katy giggled. "And I appreciate that. Believe me, I do, but, I swear, I don't think there's any food in there, and it's too late to call anywhere for takeout now. I'm sorry, babe."

Kris groaned, and pulled Katy up to face him. He kissed her on the mouth, then the nose, then her eyelids. He loved kissing her all over her face. She giggled in response, which was just the reaction he wanted. He loved the sound of her giggling.

"I shall forage for food. I am a hunter-gatherer," Kris said in a caveman-esque voice, as he slid out from under her and out of bed, pulled on some underwear, and made his way into the kitchen.

Katy laid in bed, deliriously happy. She wasn't sure how long she was lost in her daydreams before Kris arrived back in the bedroom with a plate of what appeared to be some sort of microwaved pastries. He got back into the bed and offered the plate to her.

"What are they?," Katy asked.

"Hot Pockets. The freezer was full of ‘em," Kris responded.

"Weird," she said as she picked one up and inhaled the aroma of ham and cheese.

"Yeah, there was a note from Mom in the kitchen. Said she got a big care package for us from some fans, and it was full of these."

Katy laughed out loud. "I don't get it," she said, and took a bite. "Mmmmm. But, I'll take ‘em."

Kris was mid-chew and giggling himself, as he responded, "Me neither." He licked his lips.

Notes: Bonus points for me! :D

"Are you eating something?"

"Maybe," Kris says through a mouth half full of puff pastry, ham, and cheese sauce. "Why?"

"Because you mumble enough on the phone already, without the food."

"Whatever."

"What are you eating?" she asks with a light sigh.

Kris goes very still and his eyes flick from side-to-side like he's a kid sneaking cookies. "Stuff."

"Oooo, Stuff. I love the taste of Stuff. Especially when I know what Stuff is."

"Stuff is a Hot Pocket," Kris says and preemptively braces for the lecture when Katy gasps.

"Kristopher! You know you can't eat that stuff!"

Kris groans. "I know. I know. But they're so good and Alli had never had one and I was like, 'What!? You've never had a Hot Pocket? We have to fix this.' So--"

There is a faint beep, beep, beep on the other end of the call that Kris recognizes immediately as their microwave. "Watcha cookin'?" he asks candidly, hoping to avoid more of the previous lecture.

Silence.

"Katy?" Kris prompts, brow fretting.

"Mmm," Katy murmurs. "Lean...Stuff."

25.
Prompt: Argument
Author(s): vanya_elda
Rating: PG
Notes: So hard to come up with this one, man.

Kris blearily stares at Katy marching around the kitchen for several seconds before he says, "You look mad."

"Oh, really?" she replies in a testy tone before she slaps a frying pan onto the stove, making Kris flinch. "I wonder why."

Kris blinks. "Me too."

"Don't you know what day it is?" she arches a brow and purses her lips.

"No?" Kris replies in bewilderment.

He just woke up. She's yelling. Is this what hell is like?

"It's the 17th!" Katy huffs and pounds on the counter for emphasis.

"Woohoo?" Kris croaks with a shrug. "Seriously. Is this how you're going to react every time I forget something, now? Because you know, I forget stuff a lot--"

"No, Kris," Katy snips. "This date is different because it's the only one that's new and really important."

Kris lolls his head as he tries to come up with something. Where was he last year on September 17th?

"First time to Los Angeles? I don't know. Did I mention that you are acting completely crazy, right now?"

Kris's eyes widen as she heads straight for him. Katy grabs his hand and gives it a tug. She leads him, with her nose turned up in the air, over to the bulletin board.

Katy flips up the August page and gabs a figure toward the middle of the September one. "See?"

"Uhhhh," Kris murmurs as he stares dumbly at the blank little box with a "17".

Katy glances up at the calendar. She blushes. "Oh."

Kris wraps his arms around her and presses a sleepy kiss to her ear. "Happy three-hundred-and-sixtieth-day anniversary, babe."

29.
Prompt: Watching a dramatic or romantic movie together.
Author(s): blue_icy_rose
Rating: PG
Notes: I get bonus points, yay! (And this was supposed to have been done for the last batch, sorry! So late, lol.)

Katy tilted her head, not moving her gaze from the screen when she heard Kris take a deep breath. She didn't think anything of it as they watched the scene continue to play out until she heard him let out a shaky breath.

"Kris?" she asked, turning to look at him. She watched as he blinked rapidly, keeping his eyes on the screen. "Kris, are you crying?"

There was a long pause as he swallowed. "No," he muttered.

Her eyes widened and then she smiled a bit. "It's okay to cry, you know."

"I'm not crying, damn it." Kris's face fell into that stubborn pout that she loved, the one she'd first seen when he'd absolutely refused to wear a tie to a church dance and when he'd insisted that he "so could" climb to the top of the waterfall and dive into the water below (and then been told that even if he could, he wasn't going to).

She turned back to the TV, deliberately focusing on the sight of Landon breaking down in his father's arms. As she did so, she casually laid a hand on Kris's thigh, smiling slightly when Kris laced his fingers with hers a few moments later.
