wow that's an amazing quilt. what are you going to do as far as quilting it together? i just can't wait to see the finished product (i'm sure you can't wait either)...
Oh, I'm hand sewing it all. The piecing isn't really good for machine sewing. I have a black backing for it and I'm hand quilting the diamonds in black thread. There will also be black borders as you can see from the top.
yeah, i recall you mentioning the hand-sewing, and thinking, "my dear god, i wish i had that kind of patience!"
i kinda figured you'd be doing something neutral with all the complexity of the quilt... my mom did a square quilt like that, but in solids, like some amish quilts are, and then had it quilted just at a 45 degree angle, crosswise through every square, and then a basic leaf border on the edges. it looked nice.
I got the idea for this quilt from an Amish example of the Trip around the world quilt done in solids. I had been wanting to do a postage stamp quilt for some time, where every patch is about the size of a stamp, and this one just stuck out at me. I've also wanted to do a log cabin quilt and there are a lot of knitters out there who are doing some knit version of log cabin inspired by Mason Dixon Knitting. I may jump on that band wagon as well at some point, but I have so many things going and hardly finishing anything in due time. The number of WIP's to FO's are not proportionate.
Thanks, I'm taking all the praise and running with it, it's not that this is a hard project, it's just so many little pieces that never seem to end. But I seem to like doing that to myself :-P
The parade was mostly every fire truck in a 20 mile radius (we were wondering what would happen if there were a fire...) and a lot of political handshakers. The school bands were pretty lame, but we were amused by the highschoolers who had their own ska band and wondered how they got into the conservative parade. They were a neat bunch, it was all in fun and they obviously have a sense of humor. Martin said they were playing "Hit me baby one more time" when they went past us, though how he knows that is beyond me. He's the one who got me into the Colbert Report, he had been watching The Daily Show for some time, and when Colbert got his own show I liked him better than Jon Stewart.
