ok, so we now have an AGM, yippee! (not really) but anywho...he has the front desk asking people when they check out "on a scale of 1-10 how  likely is it that you would recommend us to your friends and family?" like wtf? i feel so weird asking people this. feels like its a question from a survey. i was just wondering if anybody else has done this

We don't. We were given comment cards for the guest to fill out.

It is a question from a survey. lol..and you are giving it on the spot - which would make me really uncomfortable [for myself and the guest] It puts them on the spot - can you imagine the speil they would give if they answer was no? Who needs to be berated at the desk while checking someone out?

This is what comment cards/online surveys are for. Do you actually have to keep track of their answers? And how do you do that? Paper or computer?

i know, i hate asking people this when they check out. is it not enough that i ask how everything was?
we do have comment cards AND surveys the guest recieves thru email once they check out.
Yes we do have to keep track of their answers. we have a clipboard with a paper where we write the room#, last name, comments, and the guests rating 1-10.
our agm says this is how we're going to get better/more business.
i dont see how this is any different from me asking how was everything?

It just seems so incredibly redundant [which I know you know lol] I feel for you. Our FD would [rightfully] revolt :)

Have a good weekend!

This is what happens when you trade policy for actual interpersonal skills. We at one point had this entire schpeil of crap we had to spew out at every phone caller who just basically wanted to ask our rates an availability on a given date. It made every phone call last literally 5 minutes. What a waste.

I fuckin hate those things. We are supposed to ask "may I ask what we could've done to make your stay more pleasant?"

I mean, cmon, that just opens up a whole new window for opportunity to bitch/scam/etc. So I am asking that for sure! I just ask "how was everything?". I dont have 10 hrs to listen to their complaints.

We have this pathetic welcome letter, which sounds like blatant begging for a 10. I never give that one out either, its too pathetic.
