Oh, that's a relief. It would be really bad if you got caught up in an explosion!

So you saw the explosion too. Any guesses on what it might be?

None. It fits none of the conventions of an explosion I know of.

Same here- maybe it wasn't an explosion in the sense of a big 'boom'.

I would agree. A traditional explosion requires an incendiary, the likes of which I've had very poor luck finding so far. At least in quantities that would be dangerous. An explosion the size of the one witnessed would be impossible with the resources available to us.
So there remains two possibilities.

1)The Scientists who kidnapped us are involved and have resources we know nothing of.

2)Someone's ability can generate huge, building vaporizing explosions.

Hearts are at best unreliable. Usually they are prone to betrayal.
