Oh, that's a relief. It would be really bad if you got caught up in an explosion!

I doubt it. That sort of flash would have needed a powerful incendiary, and anything with enough of a flash like that, should have taken out most of the city.
Besides which, the amount necessary would have been impossible to conceal this long. People would have stumbled upon it long before now.
The only possibility is it was something ability-related, or something so far technologically advanced we can't fathom it. And I have an excellent imagination.
