In the beginning, this was about trying to do the right thing.
The first time I vanquished a villain, it felt like justice.
Evil was punished. Good prevailed. There was even a parade. It was glorious.
It was a perfect day… or so I thought.
I didn’t realize it was the beginning of my end.
Now, as Doctor Horrible squirms beneath my boot and the crowd roars, I know the truth.
I hear the cheers, and endorphins take over.
I’m not as simple as I seem. I know what this is. And runner’s high’s got nothing on it.
This is an addiction now. It’s all about the power… the adoration… the buzz.
The crowd grows louder and pleasure floods me as I toss my enemy across the street. He dusts himself off and limps away as the only love I’ve known in years surrounds me. I could catch him, but I don’t. I let him live to fight another day.
I know it’d be easier to lock Horrible away and end this once and for all, but I can’t do that.
I need him and his hare-brained schemes.
The crowd disperses.
I’m alone.
And I’m already craving my next fix.
