The interaction between Polwheal and Bush was hilarious, and Bush's little speech there was a great take on the relationship between captain's and their first lieutenants, and on a Captain's handling of stress.
Looks like we did a trade-off! Funny how things work out, isn't it? I'm very glad you liked my half of it!
I always enjoyed the give-and-take between Bush and Styles, so I extended it to Polwheal as well.
As Bush suggested, it is a fortunate captain who has a first lieutenant who looks after him. I have to wonder whether Bush was as lucky during the year he was in command of Nonsuch.
Thank you! Seems to me that in the microcosm of a warship, each officer has a tremendous influence on his juniors. A good man may leave a legacy far greater than he might imagine. Bush would probably understand that he was a teacher of seamanship and the like, but, I agree, would never fully appreciate his own merits and the real lessons he would pass on to others around him.
Thanks so much! I'm delighted that you found him to be in character, even if a bit talkative. By this point in the series, CSF mostly limited him to a line or two at a time.
I really appreciate your work on this challenge! It was fun to do, and I'm really looking forward to catching up on so much great reading!
Wonderful! It's a delightful piece, I cannot help grinning. Skillful as always, converted the Hornblower's story into Bush's, but not only about him, literally about the concatenation of the leadership & the support, their comradeship. Also keeps the original humorous atmosphere of Ioanite's story, I love Hornblower picking cat hairs from his sleeve X) And I adore the scene Bush is looking out the night sea... it's so beautiful.
No surprise there, with me as the author. Seriously, though, what really fascinates me about this series is the nature of their friendship, the give and take, the leader and subordinate roles and their comfort in them.

Well done, m'aam, well done. *salutes*
(Weird, looks like I need a cat icon too).

I think that Bush would be surprised to think of himself as a teacher.
And the cat, who gets yelled at, and does not care. Wonderful.

Definitely part of his charm.

I 'mined' a little deep, here....I do think it would take a fair amount of 'encouragement" (alcohol?) for him to be this forthcoming!
