I gotta get out of this place ...

Hello, I'm going insane.

I think it's because I haven't really left the apartment in three days (which my brain is sure was really only two days -- the first warning sign). I second the East Village suggestion -- St. Mark's is a good idea, as is just generally wandering around. There's a whole lot of cool stuff over here, and a Metric ShitTonne of vegetarian or vegetarian friendly restaurants. If you're in the mood to experience New York as somewhere that can actually be laid back, I recommend getting a takeout lunch somewhere and eating it / reading a book / people watching / etc in Tompkins Square Park :)

Tompkins Square Park was not my favorite spot of the day (saw a weird fight, lots of cops, permeating smell of urine), but I really loved Washington Square Park. Anywhere where folks sit inside the fountain is A-OK by me.

(Re: vegetarian food: Went to The Organic Grill. The food was good but not awesome, but satisfactory enough that I'll gladly go back and order something different)

There is a Ramen restaurant in St. Mark's Place that looked interesting.

I also wanted to walk on The High Line, which is an old above ground railway-turned-park.
