Marvel

Ah crap, I so do not want to get back into reading marvel comics right now.  The whole plot mess, rapidly changing artists/writers and general character screw-over that always happens just made me so jaded about reading them.    But over this weekend I stumbled upon news about my favourite characters from X-force and what they're doing these days ( Read more... )

X-Men is so screwed up right now. >_o; Basically heaps of people are dead and the Mutants have basically run off to go create their own paradise island to live on.

If I want to read any good X-Men these days I go back and read my old stuff and X-Men, End of Apocalypse because no matter how weird canon-wise it was it was still a good read and I liked Chris Bachalo's art.

I've been seeing little gobs of what's happening in the major plot of the X-verse and that makes me want to run shrieking. (Saw at one stage something about Cyclops and the White Queen? As much as I was never fond of Scott and Jean, that was pretty much the holy couple of 'no author is to ever break them apart' for as long as I can remember ( ... )

You didn't hear this from me but you can always download a comic or two to see how things are and then buy if you like where it's going. Or, if you're into less shady practices, go to your local comicbook store and read a few pages.

I also wonder what particular X-men are up to as well but I haven't been able to get back into Marvel for years. On the contrary, I've been all over all of DC's Green Lantern series ever since the Sinestro Corps War and I've never been a fan of DC before. To be honest, I'm still not as it's too violent and over-the-top for my taste but they do have some interesting characters. Every now and then Sinestro perks my interest because of his somewhat unique villain dynamic. He actually hates what he's doing but feels it's absolutely necessary for universal peace. If he wasn't so arrogant, I'd actually feel for the guy.

I've found some links that give me fairly decent run downs with a couple of scans to show just what they're going on about. This has been feeding my craving great so far. (not to mention I've been trawling through a wealth of fanfiction). I figure if I'm still craving in a couple of months then I might consider investing in some TPBs.

Somehow I've always been more Marvel then DC, although that didn't stop me waaaaaay back when I collected from picking up random titles that caught my eye. Mostly I'd pick up comics for the same reasons on picking up books, seeing characters that pinged my interest being put through situations that made me grin in delight. Character growth is what I liked to see, and not seeing it happen or outright blatently ignored is what drove me away.

I picked up Green Lantern a while ago... I think it was during Kyle's run? (I'm not even sure that was his name now) Only managed a couple of issues though, not due from lack of interest in this case, but more lack of income.

That had to be a while ago because the focus is back on Hal Jordan. I also followed Green Lantern Corps to find out how the others were doing. What kept me interested is the "War of Light" story arc that had every color of the spectrum gain a lantern and many of the groups started fighting each other. And then that lead into an incredibly HUGE DCU crossover event called Blackest Night where the Black Lanterns came into being. I have to admit, it has some of the best storytelling I've ever seen. Now that it's over with, they're running another event called Brightest Day. So far it's a slow start (which is highly understandable after Blackest Night) but i'll stick with it for a while and see where it goes.
