This was really interesting. How can his likelihood of relapse be calculated at 71%? (Not 70% or 75%, but 71%?

An excellent question for its author! ;) I imagine there must be some DSM equation for there to be any number at all, never mind one that's round and divisible by 5, as opposed to just "high," "middling," or "low." If I had to guess there are markers that have been assigned particular values, which are then input into some equation with scaling co-efficients that spits out a percentage; but I really have no idea! I'd be curious to find out, too, though.

It's kind of like the weather report: The news will say 18 percent chance of rain, or 45 percent, or whatever, but in the end it either rains or it doesn't. I know this is my issue, nobody else's, but it feels as though that should mean the chance was really 50%. Or even 100%, but we just didn't know which it was going to be. Gah.
