*wipes tears from eyes*

Best thing ever. Till you write another one of those.

“Threw things at him, o’course. Mostly paving stones and fruit and veg, but someone threw one of Dibbler’s pies at him, too.

YESSSSSSSS.

“No? They’re just a couple of people looking stylish in black who appear to be very good at killing things, then, Lord Downey?”

Bwahahahhaa. Poor Lord Downey, and I don't think I ever had that sentiment before.

“Don’t really think it’s a golem, just some smartarse in enchanted armor. Golems can’t be smartarses, and that’s a fact.”

There goes Tony's discworld cover. Honestly, this is SO GREAT. Thank you for writing it!

The Disc loves to puncture egos, and for Loki, that's a mortal wound. Especially when it comes with a side order of Dibbler's meat pies.

'Fraid Clint and Natasha are a bit of an affront to Downey, but it's his fault for being a git.

"Smartarse golem" doesn't quite work, does it?

Glad to have amused!

Awesome - feels just about the right reaction for the Discworld.

Somewhere out there is a Dalek invasion of Discworld story - that one doesn't go well either...

Belated thought - given this is the Discworld, is there much rat in the shawarma?

Mr. Goriff reserves the rat for his dwarf customers. The Dalek invasion of Discworld was pretty genius, wasn't it? Forget who wrote it, though.

This was enjoyable to read! And it leaves nice stretches for the imagination, such as how Vimes probably had to be talked out of trying to throw all the Avengers into the nick overnight for disturbing the peace, and whether the gang up at Dunmanifestin would have preferred to pay Loki a visit for poaching on their preserves, or set up a betting pool on whether the Morporkians would buy him off or throw him out...

It's definitely a good thing Captain Murrica is so good with people. It struck me that he and Carrot are brothers from another mother, if you get my drift, but I can't imagine Vimes was happy to see more weirdos in the middle of an invasion. And my money would be on the Dunmanifestin betting pool.

Of course, without the Avengers showing up, unless Ridcully authorizes his faculty to throw some serious magic around, Ankh-Morpork is pretty much toast. Even with Dibbler's pies, the crowd wasn't hurting anything but Loki's pride, considering he's proof against the bullets from gonnes.

Now, Dwarven throwing bread, on the other hand...

I'm pretty sure dwarf bread is one of his weaknesses.

Hysterical. I love how everyone perceives the Avenger team - you're not a hero in someone else's world, you're just a nuisance. :D

Especially in Discworld, which is more used to nuisances than heroes. And nuisances that are heroes, for that matter.
