LOVE IT! OMG, I am so madly in love with this fic - I actually dreamed about it last night, and I couldn't think of anything else while I was volunteering this morning. Will you still be posting regularly over the Easter weekend?
It's such a pity Rose and Martha never had the chance to be friends in the show - I'm glad we're getting to see that here! And you've captured them all so well, too. :D
Yep, still doing a chapter a day over the weekend, never fear!
It is a pity Rose and Martha never really got to know each other. I think their strengths would be very complementary, and they'd have been great friends.
Busy today, will leave a more in depth comment later. For now I'll say I love the friendship you have going between Rose and Martha, and the way Martha is a healer in this the way she is a healer on the show.
Making Martha a healer was pretty much a no-brainer. She's cool and collected when it comes to stitching people up, and she can survive off the land without even trying. But she's not a fighter. That's why she and Rose make such a good pair.
I love how perfectly Rose and Martha's strengths compliment each other. They are an inimitable partnership. Until six. It was heartbreaking to hear the story of Martha's mercy kill of Tom.
The tale Martha told Rose was awesome. A foreshadowing of epic proportions: “The Lady greeted the Wolf as she would a friend, and she said, ‘You, Wolf, will never be alone again. I grieve your pack with you, but you must live on with their memory inside you. The Mockingjay will be your friend and companion, and you, Wolf, will now be a protector of the forest and the creatures within it.’
I am so happy that this story exists. It fits so well in between the two worlds. Martha's story was especially lovely. I am so, so excited for the coming chapters!!!

I enjoy writing "folk tales" like that. I sort of took my cue from some Native American stories about the Raven.
Heh. Who else would be a mentor for the forest district?
