My Eleventh book for ljbookbingo is The Monogram Murders by Sophie Hannah for the Mystery Square, table found here:

Hercule Poirot's quiet supper in a London coffeehouse is interrupted when a young woman confides to him that she is about to be murdered. Though terrified, she begs Poirot not to find and punish her killer. Once she is dead, she insists, justice will have been done. Later that night, Poirot learns that three guests at a London Hotel have been murdered, and a monogrammed cufflink has been placed in each one's mouth. Could there be a connection with the frightened woman? While Poirot struggles to put together the bizarre pieces of the puzzle, the murderer prepares another hotel bedroom for a fourth victim. ~Amazon Book Description

First off I tried to go into reading this book with an open mind and not expect an exact replica of Agatha Christies writing. I am a huge fan of Mrs. Christie and of her detective Poirot, so really I was just thrilled to be able to read another mystery with Poirot involved.

Overall I liked it. I thought the author did a fairly good job with Poirot's character and how he interacted with others. The mystery was interesting if a bit convoluted. I was bummed that there was no Hastings (I am rather fond of him) and instead Ms. Hannah introduced us to an Inspector Edward Catchpool. Catchpool was nice enough I grew to like him although I thought the author at times made him a bit too thickheaded especially since he is already a detective at Scotland Yard. I did like that the Inspector had his own worries and fears to contend with as he went about trying to solve the mystery and keep up with Poirot at the same time, it made him seem more real. Would I recommend this book? Probably, with a warning that although I enjoyed it I do recognize it has issues that others may not like. I am planning on reading the next one in the series as I did like it enough to keep going.

Also I wanted to signal boost
fandomtrumpshate they are auctioning off fanworks for various worthy charities.   This week you can look over what is offered and figure out what you would like to bid on. There are sooo many tempting offers.  I see several auctions that I might want try to win.
