After her conversations with the people at the inn, Ty Lee too had decided that it might be a good idea to do some exploring outside. After all, this was an entire town, right? And that caravan people kept talking about probably wasn't going to be found inside a building ( ... )

no problem! worthpraise May 21 2010, 02:32:33 UTC
Amaterasu had looked up briefly - very briefly - and been impressed by the girl's acrobatics. But hunger currently outweighed even spectacle - and apparently common sense, as she almost ran into that same girl.

She pulled back, sitting down and looking up this person. She bows her head forward at the apology - accepted, forgotten; it was both of their faults anyway.

She tilted her head, wondering how she could ask this person to do more of those nifty things - she usually didn't see stuff like that. Oh, maybe if she did something like that...? She stood and ran in a tight circle before sitting in the same place and looking up at Ty Lee expectantly. Would that work?

Ty Lee scrunched up her face for a second, thinking-- then brightened in realization.

"Oh! You want to play?"

same exact problem here i'm afraid. worthpraise May 21 2010, 04:56:04 UTC
Amaterasu barked in delight. Yes! People could actually understand her once she put it the right way. That sounded extraordinarily simple, except that meant she had to remember what they usually expected from a regular dog. That complicated things.

Tail-wagging, however, seemed pretty universal. Amaterasu's own tail swept through the air as she stood up, ready for whatever Ty Lee might want to play.

Yuusei hasn't really been in the mood to eat at all, really, a sickening pit forming in his stomach the more he realizes just how stuck he is here. After quite a bit of wandering around, asking about just how and where and why, he's found a nice wall to lean himself up against and shut his eyes. He reaches into his pocket and pulls out the device... the Junogam was it? Flipping it open, he contemplates using it, but decides to save that for a time when he isn't numb with confusion ( ... )

Unfortunately for her, Amaterasu had no sense of who could see her true form and who couldn't. So when she looked up at Yuusei, all she saw was another one of those people playing with the weird devices. But instead of tapping away at it or speaking into it, he put it away.

She tilted her head and watched him. That was unusual behavior for the people she's met recently. Was something different about him? On second look, he didn't seem to be feeling so well. She barked quietly and sat, her tail wagging back and forth slightly. Maybe she could help; there hadn't been a lot of people asking her for help here, but maybe this time would be different.

He raised a brow as he noticed the wolf looking at him with its head cocked just a bit. The sight threw him into a slight bit of awe... the markings were oddly entrancing. The only dogs he'd ever had contact with had been The Satellite's strays, and yet this wolf seemed much tamer compared to them. Taking off his glove on his left hand, he lowered it and offered his hand out, as one would do with most dogs.

He hummed a bit in the meanwhile, less concerned with whether or not the wolf might bite his open hand and busying himself with wondering if it was a boy or a girl...

Ammy watched him, still concerned. When he lowered his hand, she sniffed it in greeting before bumping her head into it. Some people found petting animals to be soothing; she was pretty sure that was one of the reasons Kushi always made sure to give her a quick scratch at least. And if Amaterasu found it just as nice as any other dog might, well... she was just being good to people, wasn't she?

Ammy wore no collar or identification of any sort. However, depending on how well Yuusei knew canine anatomy, her sitting position should reveal her lack of boy parts. Please do not try to check under her tail to confirm. She wouldn't like that.

Elika was more than happy for a clean change of clothes. They'd been so generously provided by the innkeeper, and not only were they a sight more modest than her old rags, the outfit had also come with shoes; ones that fit, no less. And the best way to break in a new pair of shoes was by walking.

Of course, she had the excuse that she was exploring, or taking scope of the town, or something like that--but mostly she was just voraciously curious about the place. For a first glimpse of life outside of her father's kingdom, Sleepywoods was calm, but still bustling. A perfect training grounds, as it were.

She'd parted ways with her companion for a moment while he checked out the rooftops; she, on the other hand, was more than happy to go up and down the tight, winding streets, admiring the architecture, the people milling about, the glowing dog--

--waaaiiiit.

One of these things is not like the others!

Cue pausing in the middle of the street as she watched the dog go about its business.

Surely there was nothing out of the ordinary about a glowing wolf with a flaming disc on her back. Amaterasu didn't think so, at least.

The wind picked up slightly and Amaterasu lifted her head into it, breathing in deeply and sorting through the different scents it carried. More people, the woods surrounding them, the buildings - and sand, sand without the sea.

She turned and looked straight at Elika, slightly surprised to see that the woman was already watching her. That settled it. The bell around her ankle sounded quietly as Amaterasu made her way over to the woman, leaving behind her a small trail of flowers that bloomed and faded. She sat a polite distance away, squarely facing the woman. Her nostrils flared as she took deep breaths - she had never smelled anything or anyone quite like this. She knew plains and forests, rivers and deep caves, but this was none of these.

Amaterasu looked up at the woman's face, head tilted curiously. Now then, who was this person?

Elika titled her head right back at Amaterasu. Her eyes were wide in wonderment as she took in the plant life growing and fading in the animal's steps. As it came closer, she could feel the wash of power, both so familiar and yet so alien to her own.

She wasn't sure which approach to take; obviously everyone around them was blissfully ignorant of the dog's true nature, so perhaps it was best to just act normally. She crouched, as if greeting a regular dog, and smiled warmly.

"Hello there. Aren't you lovely..." She extended a hand politely, and let a tiny trickle of blue light dance along her fingertips. Let the dog smell Ormazd's power, the ancient desert and the scraggly moutain flowers of her homeland.

Amaterasu gave Elika a wolf grin, jaw gaping open. She watched Elika's hand approach, and she twitched when she saw that blue light. She slowly sniffed it, ears pricked forward in surprise and curiosity. This was something entirely new, something she had never smelled before. She was inhaling rapidly, engrossed in this, and suddenly inhaled dust.

She managed to turn her head most of the way before she sneezed. Her ears were turned back in embarrassment when she looked back at Elika. She appreciated the way that Elika had given her that chance, but hopefully the woman will forgive her if she hung back a little right now.

After the panic this morning, Anathema had spent the majority of the day holed up in the inn room she had woken up in, sulking. But after some time even she had to admit that sitting around and doing nothing wasn't going to get her back home any faster, and eventually she managed to pull herself together just enough to warily make her way through the town. Eventually still she started to actually explore, eying everything she passed with interest despite herself. The shops, the people, the animals....

Anathema looked sharply over her shoulder. She could have sworn that dog that had walked by wore the strangest pattern not a second ago, but a closer inspection it just looked like any other normal, white dog.

....though if she looked a little harder she could just make out a very bright, very determined aura around the animal. This was a dog on a mission.

"Here, boy." She paused, then quickly corrected herself. "Er, girl. Did someone lose you?" As well cared for as the dog looked, she had to belong to someone....

Amaterasu stopped and looked up when she was addressed. There were a lot of people asking her if someone had lost her around here. And it wasn't true! Sure, she was lost, but that didn't mean that someone else had lost her. It was an important distinction to her. A bell rang as Amaterasu shook herself all over in denial of Anathema's question. She was, in total, one (1) wolf-god, and fully in possession of herself.

That bell that chimed again as Amaterasu moved forward might provide another (misleading) clue that Ammy had some mysterious missing owner somewhere. Unless dogs have suddenly learned how to tie things around their own ankles.

She stopped in front of Anathema, sitting down politely in front of her. See? Perfectly capable of handling herself.

That small action may have earned a brief back step, but it certainly seemed trained. And so polite! If Anathema didn't know any better, she'd almost think the dog actually understood her, but of course that was probably silly.

"Good girl....that's a very pretty bell," she murmured offhandedly, looking Amaterasu over. Hm, no means of identification. Alright then. The witch held out her hand. "Here, I could help you look if you like."

Amaterasu sniffed at her hand, nudging it slightly with her head. She stopped when Anathema spoke, her ears pricking forward and her tail starting to wag in anticipation.

Of course, she believed that the offer was to help find food, not this imaginary person. She danced backward, bell jingling again, and put her nose back down to the ground, following a scent down the road, towards District 2.

Jack had wandered around District 1 but everything seemed to be just more inns. He figured if he had to eat, he better find some work soon; he wasn't sure if that Cid guy also promised free food along with the lodging. The rows of housing seemed to end along the road, so he figured there may be something different outside of this area. He turned his head to the side, wondering if he should stop and ask for directions, but instead, he felt his body crash against something firm and... furry?

As he bounced off, Jack fell on his behind against the roadway, his eyes closed tight with the pain in his backside and palms. "Ouch!" he yelped. When he opened his eyes again, expecting to see some angry person he just bumped into, his jaw dropped at the sight of a large white dog... no, not a dog, a wolf?

"WHOA!" Jack started scooting back like an upturned crab. "Uh, ha ha, sorry about that," he laughed nervously, realizing his sword was left at the inn. "Niiice doggy, niiiice doggy..."

Amaterasu was used to dodging people. Or failing that, people dodging her. She really didn't expect to have someone collide into her side on accident, and so she whipped around, head and shoulders down, poised to leap-

And found a boy crawling away from her. She relaxed immediately - with his apology, it had obviously just been an accident. She let out a soft breath in annoyance - that hadn't felt good on her end either. It wasn't too bad in the scheme of things - it was nowhere near Susano's level of frustration, certainly.

But it was hard to let an opportunity like this just pass. She trotted forward enough to butt his chest lightly with her head, then danced back out of reach, bell jingling merrily.

Jack stared for a minute, jaw still agape. He had expected the wolf to leap in which he was ready to roll out the way and start running, but instead the gesture was almost... playful. He patted his chest where the contact had been, blinking a few times looking between his hand and the wolf.

A boyish smile returned to his face as he put his hands on his hips. "Heeey, is that supposed to be a challenge? I can run pretty fast, too, you know!"

Amatersu barked at him, tail wagging madly. If it was a race he wanted, she was game. She had raced Ida, the fastest express messenger around Shinshu Field, and beaten him. Even when he had started dropping spikes behind him to trip her up. Because sure, she might start off a little slow, but once she got up to speed there was no catching her.

So, full of pride and mischief, she tossed her head in the direction of the streets leading towards District 2. Should that be their course?
