Can understand why loud cracking sounds would be worrisome but as you know working shoes in is a noisy business :)

I haven't had to break in shoes for years (I've been wearing gaynor mindens, which don't 'break-in'), so the crack was quite disconcerting!

So far I like these, although I think that I may need some elastic at the heels, because they weren't quite slipping off my heels, but it was close. These could get expensive though- $100 a pair :(

Bloch shoes always required working in, the backs of the shoe is layers of leather and glue (or at least that's how they used to make them), they are only truly 'broken' if you can hear something rattling when you shake them, but the backs do need loosening and easing in. Blochs always used to last quite well, so hopefully the cost will not be a problem. And yes I always had elastics as well as ribbons on my pointes no matter what brand shoe I used.
