I'm glad you hear that it feels somewhat plausible; with John's experiences with alcoholism in his family I could see him either a) never touching alcohol or b) also having to fight its call, and not being able to resist after the terribleness of Sherlock's suicide. It was an interesting prompt to fill.

Gorgeous, my dear. I love that it's not all hearts and flowers and hot sex true love conquers all. It's painful and gritty and difficult, but it'll be worth it in the end.
I'm glad you say that; my first version of this didn't even have the kiss as resolution, just Sherlock getting the tea and a very minor slice of hopefulness to round it up. The prompt specified happy ending, though, so I switched it around a bit and made the ending a shade brighter. I love exploring the difficulties of things like this, and how it's far from fixed at the point they're at now, but how it's not hopeless, either. Like most of life, really. :)
