OMG THIS IS AMAZING!!!! I love this quiet, domestic, slice-of-life fic, with the quiet pining in the background, and Shirley doing what she needs to do to discourage Jane from her suitors. That's so in keeping with what we see in the film (how OBVIOUS is Shirley in the film???), and I love how you explored what Shirley is thinking those moments.

AND JANE SOLVED THE CASE I AM SO HAPPY THAT JANE SOLVED THE CASE HOW WONDERFUL. Jane is such a wonderful Watson!

Oh, gosh, this was just such a delight. Thank you, fic writer, this is a wonderful gift, and you did a marvelous job.

I was so happy when I heard you liked this! Your sign-up had such a huge range of things to choose from, it was very hard to settle on one. If I'd had more time, I would have been tempted to get familiar with one of the other verses you suggested and maybe write something there. They all sounded so intriguing.

Actually I gave the Jane-and-Shirley-in-drag-on-another-case art prompt a go first, since I do draw sometimes too, and that's a piece of art I'd love to see myself, but I just couldn't get it to work out right... Maybe I'll also include it as a prompt next year in my own sign-up!

Thank you for this very enjoyable scene, And with a solid and interesting bit of detective work, too.

Nicely thought and written bit of blood harrowing, Shirley's description of married life.

Just before I wrote this, I read a book about life in a Victorian home (by Judith Flanders) and harrowing is certainly the word for it. What a closed-in and restricted life married women lead (unless they were working class, and then they had plenty of other problems.) I'm glad we're in the 21st century!

Echoing what's said above - I had never come across this 'verse before but your story made me feel I knew Jane and Shirley. And the puzzle and solution are so clever.

Oh, that was lovely, vivid and poignant. I can't say I wish the young doctor with the King Charles spaniel well, but if he is inevitable, I hope at least Dr Morstan has progressive ideas and often goes away on extended visits.
