Wow! I love that story, too, and you've created something really special here. I am impressed by your decision to use wood and acrylics, it almost seems like the canvas itself is an echo of their canoe. I love the way your photos captured the light glimmering on the paint, it is gorgeous. I love how Wakakana and Holamaka are dwarfed by the sea and the land, and yet we know they are more powerful than both, now that they've found each other. The shape of your island is lovely and a bit mysterious. Great work!

ETA: Oh, and I forgot to say: perfect title is perfect. Worth the search, I'm so glad you found it.

I've not read that story, but you've made me curious. :)

Lovely use of color. And I want to go to that island!

I love that story too, and it's thrilling to see art for it. I think rachelindeed has already said everything I could think of to say, so I'll content myself with seconding her. The immensity and blueness of your ocean!

OMG I love it!

I'd wondered when I saw the title if this was going to be based on "Wakakana Koa" - I almost squealed when I saw this. The feeling is like some of the folk art of the European sailors who depicted their first encounters with Polynesian people. You caught Holamaka Kahuna's long hair and tattoos, and Wakakana's bad arm. No doubt they're headed for that nice long strip of beach at the point for a landing.

Mahalo (thank you)!

I agree, the title is perfect! I also love the colors and textures of your painting. Excellent!

I'm not familiar with the story, but now I'm definitely going to read it thanks to your art.
