A meme! Yoinked from lowellboyslash, because I clearly have time for this, among my more meaningful posts this year...

The Rules: Don't take too long to think about it. Fifteen fictional characters (television, films, plays, books) who've influenced you and that will always stick with you. List the first fifteen you can recall in no more than fifteen minutes.

I am amazed by how few of these characters I actually know! Really only four to any reasonable extent, and three more kinda.

Interesting-which four? I'm surprised as well.
(Updated with explanations, FYI.)

Taran of course, Peter Wimsey, Simon Tam, Benedict. Almaviva sings pretty, tho.

He's sort of the iconic theatrical smartass, yes? So that's a bit of identification, right there. As I've gotten older, I've taken different things from a lot of these characters, including him-a bunch of these guys (mostly the guys) are influences that meant a lot to me at one point, in ways that I now regard as unhealthy. So for a lot of them, including Benedict, there's some identification, and some nostalgia, and some cautionary notes. He certainly illustrates my favorite rule of conversation, which is that you should never, ever make categorical statements about your plans for your personal life, unless you don't mind looking stupid a couple scenes or acts in the future. ;-)

So are you a charming but not terribly bright gentleman or an honest upright man with a penchant for solving other people's problems? I can't tell! :)

All of the above with varying degrees of frequency? I hope? :-)

Ivan, but not Miles? That... somehow it doesn't surprise me... and yet at the same time I find it notable?

And it makes me realize how much Ivan has influenced me, too.

It's also somewhat amazing to see Cordelia right up there under Mike in your list, because I know very well how Mike has influenced you, holmes_iv.

If I'd started reading them younger, then maybe Miles, but for when I read them, Ivan-especially the later-edition Ivan, who actually seems to be shaping up into the kind of responsible adult that Miles has had a lot more trouble turning into. Cordelia is more somebody I feel should be listened to, Ivan somebody I feel more kinship with (though I hope I'm not as deliberately dense as he is, even when I'm irritated...). And the list is, I should say, not ordered. :-)

Personally, I was torn between Miles and Aral, but settled on Miles.

I find Aral a more admirable character, Miles a somewhat more identifiable one-but can't really identify with either of them, at this point in my life.
