A Bit of Editing Talk for a Dreary Friday Afternoon

Apr 27, 2007 16:38

I just read the most intriguing article about Thelma Schoonmaker. She's Martin Scorsese's longtime friend and editor.

And I'm so appalled by this lady. She has count 'em, three Oscars (Raging Bull, The Aviator, and The Departed) and at the same time she looks like she's a super nice grandma who bakes delicious cookies! The woman is 67 years old and ( Read more... )

Okay apparently The New Yorker likes to disappear their history from the archives... but there is a very long, very excellent interview with Thelma and Marty when they were cutting Casino and making the tradition to digital editing before most people in Hollywood. If you can track it down, you'll love it.

Coolness. But I'll probably be too lazy to do it. However, it is sweet to know that the transition occurred with Casino. Thanks. :)

That's true. You guys rule! And besides, you only have one less Oscar than him. So you're practically on the same level of coolness. :P

..when are we writing that damn spec???

Not right now, I am drunk-ish.

That is when I scratched your face out! That looked hot! And remember, you were "acting" and thinking of Nicole Kidman in Malice? Even though I told you to be like Spike. Hahaha!

Mal's butt is staring at me. I don't like being watched...

Hi there hollywoodgrrl.
Thanks for the rec mate.

OOohhhhh I have to ask. You go to film school?! I am seriously considering maybe trying to get into editing and would love to find out more about it. How do you go about doing something like that? What is it like? And I guess the most important question would be, do you think I'd be any good at it?

Studying film is really a serious decision. It's a career that's, you know, not as certain as being a doctor or a lawyer. But for me, personally, it's what I am. So I wouldn't say, "do it!" just for the hell of it. If you're really passionate about it then go for it. Australia has a very competent film industry, so you're sure to find yourself some work. From your vids I can tell you have a knack for storytelling. For instance, what I picked up from them and latched on, was stuff that I myself do, which is strong lyrical interpretation. You don't just stick random clips together, it's very well thought ( ... )
