Took J to see a movie, which he partially slept through. Since it was a period drama about maths and early computers, I was rapt. Thank god they didn't end on Turing eating the apple. I would have fallen apart, which is why I hate dramas ( Read more... )

I found myself wishing they had ended on the apple, since they seemed to be foreshadowing it with a couple of scenes (the cyanide reference at the beginning, the scene where he buys everyone an apple). But maybe you're right, and it would have been too raw and emotional to actually act out.

Also, hi! I cannot for the life of me remember how I came to add you as a friend (did you ever hang out on IRC? or video game music websites?), but you appear to be 50% of the people who still update on LJ.

Perhaps the would have been too "iconic," like van gogh cutting off his ear.

So yeah, I'm not sure how we originally met, either. Could it have been a community of artist/comics people posting on disney message boards? Hello! Broadcasting from the livejournal abyss, like a ham radio... is anyone out there?

Disney message boards? I don't think so. But I used to be into art and I'm still a fan of comics and animation, so who knows. I probably found you commenting on some mutual acquaintance who is no longer on LJ. I guess it doesn't matter, because like you say, LJ is kind of an abyss. But that's also a hidden quality, because it has less noise. Facebook and Twitter are full of quick, snippy comments and advertising. Where do you go if you want to read and write longer, more fleshed-out thoughts? Places like LJ.

Wexactly. LJ was always a little more personal, and somewhat isolated unless you had a lot of followers. But I've missed having a soapbox to wax philosophical on.
