High-tech sucks that way. We are told 'everything is confidential'. So at work, I have to think twice before I forward the lunch menu to a friend. That's right: I have heard people claim that a list of food is confidential. (And if you read the fine print of my NDA, it likely is, though hopefully not explicitly.

This is one of the problems that patents are supposed to solve, if everyone knows your business practices then you don't have to keep everything secret since they can just look at the patent and can't copy it without paying you. For some reason in high tech it seems to have failed miserably.
