What doesn't kill you makes you alive, although maybe weaker or annoyed to boot. Stepping on sharp things by accident is painful and annoying. Getting into a car accident damages a perfectly good car. Breaking a limb can be messy and wastes a lot of time. Falling into a river requires the hassle of changing into dry clothes.
