By the way, my godson is not a demon lord. But he's got a girlfriend, so he hasn't really got any need for anyone to counsel him on choosing between her brothers anyway.

"The creature that accompanied me? I don't suggest approaching her." The reptiles were as ill-tempered as the Demons who summoned them, which made them ideal for protecting one's castle, but very poor pets. The man's request was bizarre, but Eclipse saw no reason to turn him down. "She likes meat. I'm sure she'd appreciate being fed. Why is it you wish to help her?"

Sirius's eyes lit up. This just might turn out to be easier than he had anticipated. "Perhaps I could feed her from afar? I'm very good with Banishing spells; I could banish a piece of meat towards her. What does she like best? No, wait, what's best for her health? I want to feed her the healthiest piece of meat a dragon could ever want." He squinted off into the distance after the dragon and then turned back to Eclipse.

"I'm on a bit of a quest for one of your fellow demons. One of my tasks is to help a dragon."

((Here's where I admit to knowing about his 'quest', and that's partly why I had Eclipse show up with the dragon. ;) ))

"You may feed her however you wish to. I simply won't be held responsible if she removes any of your limbs." There was no venom in his tone, but rather marked impassivity. "Cattle, sheep, deer, humans, all are commonly hunted by her and her kind. I doubt she has a preference."

Demons tormenting humans by sending them on impossible quests was something Eclipse was very familiar with, and he almost regretted helping Sirius out. "How did you come by this quest? You desire to impress the demon?"

"Hello! It's always nice to meet a fellow demon. I'm Anya. I'm a Vengeance Demon from Arashmaharr, which is a Demon dimension closely connected to this one. Which world are you from?"

((Unfortunately, I don't think the Demon Diary world's name was ever specified, so he can't really answer her question. ;) ))

As Anya's status was indeterminable, he nodded in lieu of bowing to acknowledge her. One only bowed to higher-ranked demons. "I am Eclipse. My world isn't so different from this one - castles, magic, an overabundance of humans..."

Demons serving such distinct purposes was a foreign concept to him. "A Vengeance Demon. Are you only allowed to act out of vengeance, then?"

"Vengeance demons seek out people who want revenge and grant their wishes. It sounds simple, but the power of the Wish can even alter reality, if that's what it takes to satisfy the person's request. However, we don't get to do that very often. Usually they just want us to cause a painful death or personal ruin."

Anya gave him a smile. "Unfortunately I can only use the Wish for others, not myself, but I'm learning magic here that I can use anytime. Are you interested in learning magic while you're looking for your Demon Lord?"

Perhaps he'd misjudged her rank. The ability to alter reality certainly wasn't something a novice would know how to do; it was very impressive. Yet she hadn't admonished him for his behaviour, nor demanded a greater show of respect... Curious. Were they equals?

He shook his head. "Humans, regardless of the world they come from, all lack creativity and foresight it seems. There are many things worse than death. And yes, I do plan to see if I can learn anything useful here."

Eclipse returned Joachim's regard, looking indifferent. The man was clearly not human, but perhaps once had been. Odd... "Those you listed and likely any others you can think of. You will accept jewels, then?"

Yes. Whatever kind you feel like giving away. *offers a vague smile* And I'll vote you into the House of your choice. You'd be a likely candidate for Ravenclaw as it supposedly used to be, and Hufflepuff as it currently is, I'd say.

"I will return." He visualised one of the treasury rooms in Raenef Castle, murmured a word, and immediately disappeared from view. Since the man had not been overly bothersome or offensive in any way (but more importantly, wasn't a human or heavenly being), Eclipse gathered the items quickly and returned in under a minute - a courtesy he wouldn't extend to many. He presented Joachim with a velvet pouch filled with precious stones*.

"Either house will do."

Eclipse 'looked' into the man's mind in order to see the boy in question. Akabane had only noticed the boy in passing, from a distance, and overheard a conversation in which Raenef's name was mentioned. Well, it confirmed what the little talking cat had said. At least Raenef was safe!

Within the man's mind, Eclipse unexpectedly saw a little more than he cared to. "..."

With great effort, he held back an eye twitch. He was sure at least a few of those positions would be physically impossible to achieve. "I do not agree to your terms."

He nodded. "Lord Raenef the Fifth."

He recognised the man as a demon, easily, and his attire was virtually an inverted version of one of Eclipse's own uniforms. Was he possibly another Demon Lord, or...?
