Eclipse, Demon Diary.

Aug 21, 2006 23:39

Eclipse made his way into the Sorting Room, a dragon-like being flanking him. One might mistakenly assume the man to be Japanese based on his appearance - black hair, dark eyes, and attire that consisted of what looked like a plain rust-coloured kimono over a black linen kosode. He dismissed the large winged creature with a telepathic command, and ( Read more... )

"Hello! It's always nice to meet a fellow demon. I'm Anya. I'm a Vengeance Demon from Arashmaharr, which is a Demon dimension closely connected to this one. Which world are you from?"

((Unfortunately, I don't think the Demon Diary world's name was ever specified, so he can't really answer her question. ;) ))

As Anya's status was indeterminable, he nodded in lieu of bowing to acknowledge her. One only bowed to higher-ranked demons. "I am Eclipse. My world isn't so different from this one - castles, magic, an overabundance of humans..."

Demons serving such distinct purposes was a foreign concept to him. "A Vengeance Demon. Are you only allowed to act out of vengeance, then?"

((No problem. :D ))

"Vengeance demons seek out people who want revenge and grant their wishes. It sounds simple, but the power of the Wish can even alter reality, if that's what it takes to satisfy the person's request. However, we don't get to do that very often. Usually they just want us to cause a painful death or personal ruin."

Anya gave him a smile. "Unfortunately I can only use the Wish for others, not myself, but I'm learning magic here that I can use anytime. Are you interested in learning magic while you're looking for your Demon Lord?"

Perhaps he'd misjudged her rank. The ability to alter reality certainly wasn't something a novice would know how to do; it was very impressive. Yet she hadn't admonished him for his behaviour, nor demanded a greater show of respect... Curious. Were they equals?

He shook his head. "Humans, regardless of the world they come from, all lack creativity and foresight it seems. There are many things worse than death. And yes, I do plan to see if I can learn anything useful here."

"Oh sometimes they do come up with really spectacular and creative wishes, but yes, usually it's just kill, maim, destroy." Discussing demon-human relations reminded her of Wolfram, and Anya made a mental note to find out if Wolfram was still planning his demon get-together.

"What kind of weaponry are you offering? I don't know that I'd have much use for a sword here, but it might be nice to have one anyway. Or if your offer of 'wealth' includes jewelry, I might be interested in that too."

"Swords and axes, spears, daggers... essentially, there's a large assortment of sharp objects designed to do bodily harm. All 'collected' from humans, as demons do not normally require such things in the world I'm from." Considering his kind are comically super-powerful to the point of absurdity could kill by thinking about it hard enough, it didn't make sense to also wield big pointy metal objects.

"It includes jewelry. What kind will you accept?"

"You don't use any weapons in your world? That's very interesting. Do you use magic instead? Or do you have innate demonic powers?"

Hmmm, swords or jewels? No contest. "I like rings with precious stones. Do you have any like that?"

"During wars some demons do choose to wield weapons, but not normally. A bulky weapon would only be a hindrance to those with advanced magic - which we use almost exclusively, and that is a demon's innate power, you could say..."

"Many. I'll return in a moment," he said, already visualising one of the treasury rooms in Raenef Castle. He murmured the needed word, and disappeared from view. A couple minutes later he returned in the same fashion, with several rings matching Anya's request strung together on a silver chain, which he held out for her to take. "Do you accept this offering?"

Anya took the rings and the chain and examined them closely. "Oh, yes. Very pretty! Yes, this is definitely acceptable. So, which House did you want?"

The insufferable young Lord had said demons belong in Hufflepuff, yet the highest ranking demon of the school had said Slytherin... Who to believe? "Either Slytherin or Hufflepuff would be adequate. Where were you placed?"

"I'm in Slytherin, but since you came here out of loyalty and responsibility, I think Hufflepuff is probably a better fit for you."

Anya leaned in a bit closer and lowered her voice, as if she was confiding secret information, but didn't really make any serious attempt not to be overheard. "To tell you the truth, I'm not sure how much it matters. Everyone seems to wander pretty freely in and out of the Houses. I think it just determines where you reside while you're here."
