Eventually, Cox realized that he hadn't actually seen Stephen and Sarah since... Jordan's sorting, wasn't it? Given that he theoretically considered them friends, and that they lived in the same House (well, Stephen officially and Sarah unofficially), that was probably not really acceptable. He decided to take the opportunity to go say hi, leaving Lily and Ed to geek about charms or whatever for a bit.

On the way over, he was slightly sidetracked by one of Homsar's outbursts, and he was still a bit distracted when he approached them. "So.. I'm totally not the only one who sees Staypuft over there, right?" he asked, by way of an icebreaker.

She simply rolled her eyes at Perry's poof gesture. If she was a demon for real, she'd be doing more than just harrassing his cranky ass. It was a skill she'd acquired through a ton of practice, and it helped her learn things that she wasn't supposed to know.

"Of course I'm human. Perry has a tendency to exaggerate things. Some people would say he's trying to make up for lacking in 'other' areas." She smirked.

Message received from Stephen - after all, she had gotten face-melting demon out of miming from Cox, why wouldn't she get all of that from a look from Stephen who she knew far, far better? - Sarah took a step back away from Cox now that she was no longer angrily glaring up at him quite so badly and let out a frustrated breath. This really was impossible, she had not wanted Stephen angry at Cox over her own gullibility, and now she was angry at Cox for laughing at her.

Blinking at the fact Cox had just voiced her exact thoughts out loud, her eyes went round for a second at the blatant insults about plastic and lacking areas. If being mean to JD meant Cox really liked him - which was Sarah's opinion on the matter - did this mean these two really liked/loved each other? How twisted ( ... )

Nonplussed, Stephen held out a hand for Sarah's glass. This was an unexpected turn of events. "What are you drinking, Miss Sullivan? Cox?"

Lily had been on the other side of the room when Sarah slammed her glass down. Raising her head, she'd watched the scene play out with increasing concern. Seeing Sarah angry made her want to rush to her friend's defense, no matter how odd things were between them at the moment. But, apparently, the object of her ire was Perry, who had not been having a good week. So, torn, she simply observed, ready to go over and try and diffuse the situation if it looked as if it were coming to a muddy duel wands out. Besides, Stephen was there. He could make sure that Sarah didn't kill Cox, right?

But then Jordan joined the group and Lily stifled a small groan. Fuck. Taking a deep breath, she walked over and joined the foursome. Standing next to Cox, but at an appropriate distance, Lily looked at him. "All right there, Perry?" she asked, her tone neutral. Jordan didn't know about them and she sure as hell wasn't going to give anything away. Also, Stephen and Sarah weren't - she assumed - in the know. Nodding at Sarah and then Stephen ( ... )

To put it mildly, this was an odd situation. But, this was a bar, and there was alcohol. Those two factors made the situation a little more tolerable. Lily's arrival and her not-to-obvious placement to Perry went unnoticed by Jordan as well.

"Lily...well, nice to see you. Perry was just calling me a demon, and it appears that she *points to Sarah* took him literally." She was smirking just a little. "I guess I can't say I'm completely surprised, Perry can be quite convincing when he gets his little panties in a bunch."

Just when he thought the situation could not get any worse... it did. Perry's eyes widened slightly as Lily approached, and he was sure she, if not the entire room, could hear the loud mental groan that rang in his head.

"Lily," he said weakly, trying to smile at her. "You've met my baggage. Baggage, you've met Lily. Doc," he added to Stephen, slightly desperate, "I'll take another scotch, thanks. Double."

"Right." Stephen could almost feel sorry for the man. Thanks to his conversation with the insufferable James Potter, he knew that Cox was embroiled in some sort of dalliance with Lily Evans Potter.

Refilling Sarah's drink and getting Cox his double scotch, Stephen considered also bringing Cox the rest of the bottle. He did add rather more vodka to Sarah's drink this time. The poor girl might need it, given the fireworks likely to ensue.

"Just fine, you?" Sarah said to Lily, simply taking the addition to the social disaster occurring at the bar in stride but blinking noticeably at her calling Jordan mate. Well, Jordan might have only been a demon in jest, but she found herself painfully unsurprised that a woman mistaken for a demon was a mate to Lily who had called other demons that. Again, that Sarah did not like Jordan was not helping this line of thought. Was Cox a 'mate' too and did that mean mate actually meant something different than Sarah had thought? Argh, headache.

Resisting the huge to point to Jordan at what she had just said about believability and continue on with Cox about that argument, she waited for Stephen's return. Taking the drink, she sipped it and noted the content change, giving Stephen a grateful look. Yes, here she was again in the Ravenclaw common room with the realization that completely sober was not the way to be.

Now, Jordan may have had a drink earlier, but she wasn't an idiot. Her years of torment marriage to Perry had given her the ability to read him like a book, and that book was saying 'Something's up'. Something involving Lily. She'd figure it out eventually.

"Why, Perry...you don't seem too happy. I can't imagine Agnes is worse to deal with than Kelso." She smirked, amused by the reactions of the others. So many people to fuck with, so little time.

Oh, Merlin, this was fun. Really. The only reason Lily had come over was to make sure Perry wasn't going to have a heart attack or throw another helpless suitcase. She could practically see Cox dying inside, so she reassured him the only way she could - by totally ignoring him ( ... )

Normally, Cox would have protested the term 'lovely lady' being applied to Agnes Nutter with all of his might, but he was still feeling a little bowled over. Instead, he simply shot Lily a dirty look, and turned to Jordan. "Jordan, the~ only reason that Agnes Nutter is any better than that behorned devil I so lovingly call Beelzebob is that there's pretty much no money in this place and therefore so much less incentive to screw everyone over. Trust me, it's still pretty bad. Of course, my being unhappy right now has absolutely nothing to do with Agnes and... pretty much everything to do with YOU being here, but I'm sure you know that already." He grinned, taking a drink. The scotch was definitely starting to get to him... He blinked and rubbed the bridge of his nose, wincing slightly.

Awkward and strange. Yes, that pretty much summed up this encounter for Sarah because while Lily was her friend, she felt on alert - not a feeling she was used to or liked. With Stephen she was with ease and safe, with Ryuujui now she felt at ease and safe but with Lily... it was not that she feared Lily unsafe, just that she feared letting go of the nice defensive emotional wall she had built to protect from getting close and having Lily's problems put them at risk. It was not that she did not miss Lily - far from that. But she had made a decision. Hand not on her glass went to her neckline to touch over the talisman under her shirt, a now familiar action when she was not at ease or just distracted, and she leaned in to Stephen slightly.

"Yes, I know her, she and I talked a few times when JD was in the hospital wing," she said with a smile and then a pointed look at Cox. "She's very nice. And maybe I'll have to look into it, JD and I talked a bit about healing magic when he was recovering, his knowledge more with spells and my ( ... )

Stephen felt Sarah lean into him, and automatically put an arm around her, reassuring. They had developed a sort of rapport over their time away from Hogwarts, better able now to read the signs each gave without having to rely on other-memory to interpret. With concern he noted her hand moving toward the talisman. Did she feel threatened? Since he did not know of Lily's falling-out with the demon Crowley, he wondered whether the talisman's power might have registered something amiss, some danger.

"Mistress Nutter knows much that 'modern' medicine might scorn, and you do well to learn from her," he said to Lily. He refrained from saying that if Sarah wanted to learn healing magic, she need not go to the hospital wing or apprentice to Agnes Nutter.

Lily smiled back at Sarah, catching her little poke at the Crowley situation. She didn't want to get into it here, but she did want to give Sarah some hint as to the fact that she and the demon were no longer on speaking terms. "Yes, I quite enjoy Madame Nutter." Oh, she was going to pay later for all the nice things she was saying about Agnes. "And healing magic is certainly the most intensive and interesting thing I've studied since I've been back. I'm glad I have the energy to devote to it. Not like I've any other professional obligations to take up my time." She gave Sarah a look and willed her to understand the meaning behind that ( ... )
