Indeed, I should think the school amply supplied with places for conviviality not already devoted to quiet scholarship. On behalf of those of us who use the library for actual research, Mr Sandburg, I applaud your efforts.

I should have posted something similar for the potions lab except that it, of course, is under lock and key and hexed six ways from Sunday when not being used by myself or by persons I have authorised.

Professor Maturin,

I saw your note. I really am sorry things have gotten so out of hand it disturbed staff. This school is such a wonderful opportunity, I figured I couldn't be surrounded by 'barbarians', as my house elf calls them. Guess I was wrong. Luckily said house elf, Tally, loves books more than people or wizards so even if I'm not as magically able as a lot of people here, the library's now protected. I think you'd like Tally, though. He seems to think all the books should be under lock and key and that people should have to apply to get in.

B.Sandburg.

PS: As I've settled in properly, could I have a list of all students you've given a pass to for the restricted section? I think Tally has a bit of a mean streak when it comes to defrocking.

Mr Sandburg:

A good house elf is a joy. The first one assigned to me when I was named Potions Master had, alas, something of a penchant for mischief. My present elf I may trust with almost anything, I find, and it sounds that your Tally is another such.

At present I believe only one of my students has a pass to the Restricted Section from me: Mr Dib, of Gryffindor House, who has been undertaking advanced research. Indeed I hope he will publish his findings in future. My assistant Ryuuji Otogi should also have access, if he did not already.

Again allow me to offer all appreciation for your diligence as Librarian. Some of the manuscripts, especially those in the Restricted Section, are in such a state of advanced age that even careless handling could spell disaster, and wizarding Latin is trial enough to read on an intact page.

You could always give them detention.

I'm terribly sorry, truly.

I knew leaving my room was a bad idea.

Angel Aziraphale,

I've heard a few things about you from Crowley. What did you do in my library that you're so worried? I got the impression you're a bigger lover of books than I am.

Dear Mr. Sandburg,

I have likewise heard well of you, sir. And I do indeed love books--more than is good for me, according to Crowley. The Hogwarts library is a credit to the school and to you, which makes it all the more distressing to think I may have caused a problem there.

I'm afraid on my recent visit I was a bit more talkative than was strictly necessary, perhaps contributing to the disturbance mentioned by Professor Maturin, though I assure you it was unplanned and I did my best to keep my voice down to an appropriate volume. I will also note, in my own defense, that it is extremely difficult to remain quiet when one trips over a fellow student seated between the stacks and lands on a sore wing.I apologize also if my note seemed a bit over-dramatic. The past few weeks have been exceedingly difficult, to the point that I have literally found myself getting into some sort of jam every time I venture out of the dorm, and it appears this time was no exception ( ... )

You know, some of us aren't really all that shy about public nudity. Try again?

Ms. Palmer,

Body acceptance is something everyone should strive for. But the second part of this is being forcibly ejected, with your pants down (or skirt up and held there magically) from the library, losing house points and possibly being suspended from using the library for some time.

I don't want to stop people from using the library, I just want them to think about their actions. I'd hate to have to ban you Ms.Palmer, because you seem to be threatening to walk into the library and not respect others' need for quiet. I am currently in the middle of doing research for you.

Mr. Sandburg -

Not threatening, merely teasing. I'm fairly certain the warning wasn't directed at me personally (at least not that I can recall), I'm just in a mood to poke at solemnity, which your flier displayed. And I did ward the tease to you alone; I wasn't trying to undercut your authority in public.

I do appreciate the research. Did you meet Mr. Giles and Lord Fanny at their Sortings?

Ms. Palmer,

Teasing staff members never goes over well, even when you know them. And in this case we've only met once.

I saw Lord Fanny, I'm not sure I met a Mr. Giles. If you've met Lord Fanny then there's no need for me to send her an owl to contact you.

Sir Sandburg,

Regarding your public notice:

Will the offending parties keep their pants, or will the pants be lost in the process? If they are lost, do you intend to keep them?

Joachim,

If the offending party only raises their voice, they'll keep their pants - somewhere around their ankles and socks.

If they are ejected from the library via house elf magic, I have no idea if my house elf might keep said pants as trophies. If he does, I will prevent him from displaying the pants outside the library.

Pants! An entire glorious collection of pants! (Maybe!) It was too good to be true. Joachim decides he really must start visiting the library more often, and perhaps attempt to befriend the resident house elf...

Sir Sandburg,

Excellent. Good to know. By the way, how late do you usually keep the library open?
