'So then I just HAD to find out ...' - a semi-meta post!

Jul 02, 2006 00:01

As we all know, H_H is a multifandom community, and I doubt that many of us are familiar with every fandom represented. So here's what I'm currently curious about. Has anyone else been so intrigued by a previously unfamiliar character in H_H that she/he saw the movie, read the book or played the game (or etc, etc.) in order to meet that character ( Read more... )

meta, ooc

Oh, so much so that Amazon.com adores me, and my bank account is crying! But learning new things and being dragged into new fandoms is one of my favorite things about this game!

*blush* I am so thrilled that I could help introduce people to the wonders that are Good Omens and the Jeeves novels. Of course that also means that more of you know what liberties I'm taking with the characters... XD Still, gotta spread the word. If anyone ever wants good fanfic recommendations, just let me know. ;)

That said, h_h has gotten me interested in a number of new things, practically none of which I've seen or read yet. :p But I intend to! Like JtHM, House, NCIS, CSI, Twin Peaks, Firefly, Buffy, Arrested Development, Lost, MacGyver, Black Books, Scrubs, Sayer's Wimsey novels, The Sentinel, and Yu-Gi-Oh. (Can you tell that I don't have TV? XD) But thanks to all of you and your amazing characterizations, I have a bunch of new fandoms to explore! Now I just have to get off the computer long enough to watch or read them. *g*

I have to say, it's very funny arriving at J&W by way of fandom. It has a way of skewing your perspective on the characters and their interactions in hilarious ways. ^_^

That said, I do love h_h J&W, and I've finally joined indeedsir. And if you want any recs on where to start with the Wimsey books, lemme know.

You mean reading the novels with slash colored goggles? *g* I didn't the first time around, innocent teen as I was with no internet to corrupt me, but now, man oh man! Especially the end of Jeeves and the Tie That Binds...

Anyway, I'd love to know where to start on the Wimsey books. The TV shows might take me a while to get around to, but the books I can read right away!

I find myself smirking inappropriately at moments where Jeeves is adjusting Bertie's attire and suchlike. ^_^ It's like how, once you've seen the trick in the optical illusion, you can just never un-see it.

The first Wimsey book, Whose Body?, isn't really the best; I'd recommend skipping it in favor of Clouds of Witness or Unnatural Death, both of which are superb. Everyone goes on about how great The Nine Tailors is, and it is very good, and a classic of detective fiction, but it was never really my favourite; YMMV. Then there's the Lord Peter/Harriet Vane sub-series, Strong Poison, Have His Carcase, Gaudy Night, and Busman's Honeymoon, all of which are good (although Have His Carcase has its draggy moments). Gaudy Night is probably the very best of all the Lord Peter books, and it was the first one that I ever read, lo these many, many moons ago. And there's also a short story compilation, Lord Peter, which is full of enjoyable shorts and well worth reading ( ... )

Cooper and Laura have reinforced my desire to watch Twin Peaks. A friend of mine is a huge David Lynch fan and kept talking about it, but those two really make me curious now.

Also, now I really want to see Domino and read the Dead Things trilogy. And watch more Lost.

Domino is a big, messy, noisy movie but a helluva fun ride, well worth the time spent. (If I knew any Spanish I'd consider app'ing as Choco, just to mess with our Domino.)

Quick word of warning about TP though: rewatching to build up Laura, I realized I'd forgotten how slow and dreamy the pace of the show is. Somehow in the intervening 15 years I've gotten used to the supafast quick-cut edit. So it may take a little adjusting, but the imagery is so lush and interesting that it's worth it.

ZOMG! Domino would die. The one person she loved back.... *Dom pokes someone to app as Choco* And my reasons for making Dom want to kill everyone would make her go o_0. She wouldn't be sure whether she should or not... XD

Well, I read Dead Girls because of Primavera(and I'm planning to eventually look for the other books, since I hear there are some) annnnd I've developed a mild obsession with Star Control 2 because of ZEX.

Oh! And I partially saw Kill Bill because of Gogo. (I'd been meaning to see it for a while, but Gogo made me accelerate that plan greatly. :P ) Ditto for Lost and Charlie.

-I recently started reading the Master and Commander series because of Stephen-mun. (I had already seen the movie when it came out years ago.)
-I'll prolly pick up The Dead Trilogy when I can, too.

And the biggest fandom H_H sucked me into? BPAL!
