KARAOKE!

((Sorry about the delay but it took me a while to decide how to play this. If you think it's unrealistic for your character to have been drunk enough/influenced by Ryuuji, you don't have to play along. Otherwise, pick any song you think your char would have sung, upload it to yousendit, then comment with a link. Easy way to share musical tastes! ( Read more... )

Steerpike wasn't much of a singer, but neither did he generally miss opportunities to show off. He kept himself down to one song, however.

Mr. Bad Example - Warren Zevon.

((*downloads, listens and cracks up at the mental image of Steerpike singing that song*))

Steerpike's rendition of the song earned him a wild round of applause from those of the audience still sober enough to connect their hands together, Ryuuji in particularly cheering more for the moral of the song and the way Steerpike looked than anything else. In fact, if he hadn't been paying for the whole night anyway, that would have been the point at which he would have bought Steerpike a drink. As it was, he satisfied himself by telling the serving creature to send Steerpike a bottle of Ambrosia Squared, "compliments of his Prefect for a well rendered performance".

Encouraged by the applause, Steerpike (feigning reluctance) took the stage for an encore.

I Feel So Good - Richard Thompson.

Coaxed by Ryuuji and Sara, a rather sozzled Lupin had been talked into singing two songs. "This one goes out to my old mate, Sirius Black," he announced.

The Decemberists - The Soldiering Life

"And this one's for the very very very lovely Miss Nymphadora Tonks."

Wilco - I'm the Man Who Loves You

"Very nice! You did your House PROUD, sir." Cheering happily, Ryuuji slid a mug of... something... down towards Lupin once the man was finished, clapping him heartily on the back before standing up and prowling off in search of his next victim.

Earlier in the evening, Stephen Maturin had resorted to his private store of coca leaves, which left him energized and relatively free of care. To embark upon serious consumption of Madeira at this point was probably not wise, but Maturin had suffered the stresses of this odd place and its odd people long enough to need some consolation.

And conviviality. A pub outing seemed just the thing.

However, the Madeira made him feel a bit morose and maudlin. Thoughts of long-departed comrades clouded his mind: his late wife Diana, the many shipmates he had lost in battle, the faraway admiral Aubrey. He began to sing ... a love song ... about dissection.

The Decemberists - Red Right Ankle

(( At this point, probably anyone could get into the Doctor's pants. Especially if they bear a resemblance to Jack Aubrey. ))

"..." A little taken back, having been unfortunately sober enough to listen to the lyrics, Ryuuji nevertheless applauded. Sara must have liked that song. It sounded like it would have been down her line, anyway.

((Oh dear. Let's hope nobody tries XD))

(( Knowing Stephen's luck? It would be pompous_simon. ... Actually, that would be kind of hot. o_O ))

It had been a rather stronger drink than Nny was expecting.

He didn't like it, didn't like the dizzy feeling, it revolted him all over again that people did this to themselves deliberately.

Not his idea of fun at all.

Especially since it made him more-than-usually amenable to being shoved in the direction of the microphone. Even knowing he'd also been roped into a duet with Adam later.

So, he sang.

Wow. Ryuuji had been half-expecting to have Nny try to strangle him with the mike cord, having forgotten it was a cordless mike. Having him actually sing like a normal person was a pleasant surprise.

Clapping happily when Nny was done, he handed him another drink as soon as Nny stepped off the stage. "Awesome! You sang really well!"

"I. Don't want a drink." Nny frowned. "But, uh. Thank you, I guess."

"Just hold it and look convival, then." Ryuuji suggested, flashing him a quick, friendly grin, "And no problem, you did great! Feel free to show off your skills again, if you like."

That said, he darted off into the crowd again, intent on having someone else sing their heart out for the amusement of the assembled crowd.
