((Sorry about the delay but it took me a while to decide how to play this. If you think it's unrealistic for your character to have been drunk enough/influenced by Ryuuji, you don't have to play along. Otherwise, pick any song you think your char would have sung, upload it to yousendit, then comment with a link. Easy way to share musical tastes! ( Read more... )

Oh, singing! This was fun!

Door tried to think of what would be appropriate. She dismissed a few that came to mind as being a bit too bawdy, or too hard to sing, or just not right.

She wound up singing two songs.

The Highwayman
The Rattlin' Bog

"..." Thoroughly amazed by the first song, Ryuuji stopped drinking and jesting to listen to her properly. When she came off the stage, he bowed deeply and handed her a pretty corsage, made from a napkin hastily transfigured into a red rose like in the song.

Softly, sincerely, he thanked her, "That was marvellous, Lady Door. Thank you for treating us to that rendition."

Door blushed. "Oh, you're too kind."

"Only the truth, m'lady." Ryuuji ducked his head as a sign of respect, then stepped back to let her other admirer address her.

Nightwing really did intend to stay safely sober, but . . . er . . . sometimes things don't go quite as one planned. Thoroughly tipsy enough to have been talked by Ryuuji into trading his jeans in for leather pants at some point, (and it was anyone's guess where the hell his shirt had gone) he proceeded to sing his little heart out.

Unfortunately, the bird motif did not extend to an excellent singing voice.

Especially not drunk.

Running Down a Dream - Tom Petty

My Baby Cares Just For Me - Nina Simone

"That was awesome!" Ryuuji cheered when it looked like Nightwing was about to get off the stage. Grabbing the mike from him, he suggested instead to the shirtless, leather-trousered male (without checking out his abs, ohgodsthoseweresomenicemuscles), "Let's do a duet now - something from Bright Eyes!"

"I have no idea who you're talking about," said a cheerful Nightwing (rock and blues snob to the core of his being), "but I'm about three drinks past caring, so sure!"

"They're a very cool alternative band. We can try to mesh the lines together, okay?" Ryuuji grinned in response, even as he got the machine to start playing.

Draping an arm over Nightwing's shoulder, he held the mike between the two of them, leaning in a little so their voices would be equally strong. Lover I Don't Have To Love by Bright Eyes started up, and Ryuuji slid into the lyrics easily, smooth voice made sensual by its slowness.

"I picked you out
Of a crowd and talked to you
Said I liked your shoes"

Thoroughly inebriated. Past all sense, past all decorum. He keenly felt the absence of his dearest friend, who would surely have stopped him from going this far, from embarrassing himself. He felt as if he should be embarrassed. He was not. He would be later.

Maturin took the stage. Again. (Again? He had done this earlier, this evening? Something like that.) He dedicated his song: "To absent companions."

*After about six drinks, and convincing Professor Lupin to sing, weaves her way to the stage, takes the microphone and sings Flatnose, The Tree-Climbing Dog by Jim Stafford and John Hadley (Performed by the Austin Lounge Lizards).*

"That was great, Sara!" Ryuuji flashes her a warm smile, getting up on stage as well and giving her an admiring look. "Siren of the science lab, I don't suppose you'd indulge me in a duet? I heard a song on the Rent soundtrack that I think would be just awesome for the two of us."

A little mischief dances in his eyes as he waits for her reply, thumbs curved though his belt loops and shirt slightly askew thanks to Nightwing's attempts to risk being put into leather pants.

*kicks back two more vodka tonics*

*Smiles and blushes as little, but not as much as when she's sober*

Sure! Sounds fun!

"Great!" Turning to the audience, he announced happily, "Ladies and gentlemen, I am honored to announce that the ever-lovely Sara Sidle and own humble self will be performing a duet - Out Tonight, from the Rent Soundtrack!"

~What's the time?
Well it's gotta be close to midnight
My body's talking to me
It says, "Time for danger"~

Cue a flourish to indicate Sara should pick up the song.

Crowley had arrived at the party late and missed the first few people to sing. Clearly behind on his drinking, he started in on a bottle of red and listened to everyone pour out their hearts. Normally he'd have scoffed and taunted at the very least, but feeling adrift and lonely in this odd place he began to think of what song might be appropriate.

As his thoughts turned towards a specific someone with blonde hair and kind, uniquely blue eyes, he knew what he had to sing.

In Your Eyes - Peter Gabriel

His clear baritone voice was angel pure and nearly heartbreaking, overflowing with unrequited feelings, which he was ready to deny if anyone called him on it. He always seemed to get maudlin over Pinot Noir...

((Since they're mp4 files, I can't play them anyway, but it sounds like a pretty song. XD Would Crowley be okay with Ryuuji coming up to sit down and chat with him?))

((Blah. You can see how good I am at this file sharing thing. >< It's a gorgeous song, anyway. The lyrics are here. And Crowley would love to talk to Ryuuji. :D))
