A disturbingly phallic fruiting body, bobbing on a pale and slender stem, peeked from the cuff of Duncan Shriek's left coatsleeve.

"You don't mean you've been underground, do you?"

He seemed normal. But then again, appearances aren't all that they seem.

"Gray caps?" I spoke too soon. "I've never seen those. You might live in a different part of the kingdom than I do." It was possible. Particularly when we annexed Hyrule, people have spread away from the city and lived elsewhere.

I shrug. "Not here anymore, so I don't see that it matters. But, with a ruler like that, I can see why it'd need rescuing. Though, why'd you bother?"

Peach. He was talking about Peach.

He was lucky I was the one here, wherever here is. If it had been Mario, the blond kid would have been put through a wall before he could blink. The only thing that set him off more than insulting Peach was being called a plumber.

I admit, though, that I didn't take the insults well either, though I tried not to show it.

"She did the best she could under the circumstances, and really did have the kingdom's best interests at heart. At any rate, you're right, it doesn't matter." My expression changed to one of sadness. "She's dead."
